Shin Shin is a true Lakewood treasure. Find thousands of items, primarily from South Korea that you can't find anywhere else.
If your kids like the cartoon Porroro the penguin and friends - this is the place to find Porroro items and toys.
Also, Thick, amazing blankets, gorgeous rugs, elegant dishes, ginormous pans, woks and colanders, unique kitchen gadgets. For organizing and food storage, Shin Shin has space and food saving containers I have never seen in the US.
They have some appliances, kitchen devices, knives and more.
My favorite Shin Shin purchases are women's clothing. They have a limited selection, but the fabrics are seasonally appropriate. For cold months, they have leggings/stretch pants lined with thick fleece. For warm months, the fabrics are unbelievably light weight and cool - many designed to protect skin from the sun without being too hot.
Note about shopping: Like many of the Korean/Asian stores in Lakewood, Shin Shin takes theft prevention seriously. Try not to take large purses or bags or ask if they want you to check it in at the register. Employees are visibly stationed around the store. They provide customer service as well as theft prevention. They are quite vigilant and may seem to follow you and/or watch you carefully. Don't take offense. It is not personal, they're doing their jobs. I always try to show respect by putting items I'm purchasing in a provided basket and making sure they can see what I'm doing. Occasionally, they may come and take your items up front for you while you continue to shop. This is normal.
P.S. They sell foot massagers that you can try in the store -I swear just 10 minutes in it felt...
Read moreDO NOT SHOP AT SHIN SHIN if you want to be made to feel like a thief, not a customer. I would give this store a zero if I could for what me and my family experienced there. We drove over an hour to get there and almost immediately my sister noticed we were being followed by an employee. At one point she looked into my sister's bag. We ignored it for a while. When I saw an employee blatantly look at my daughter from head to toe, and then my niece from head to toe, and followed them to the same aisle only to watch them, I drew the line. I approached her and asked why was she following this girls and watching them closely as if they were stealing something, she said "it's my job". She used the excuse that it was "customer service" and made my daughter and niece very uncomfortable. The girls decided to go to the other end of the store and the same lady walked the same direction and continued following them, but another employee started to follow them. The girls left the store. We then asked to talk to the manager about the situation, and "Karen" (thats the name she gave us) came to talk to us and we voiced our concerns. She said that it was customer service and kept saying to give them another chance. If it were customer service, why did none of the women follow the couple who clearly looked more Korean than my family? I wish I had read the reviews before wasting our time going to the store, clearly the store policy is to treat customers who do not look Korean as thieves rather than customers. We are sorely disappointed, as asians trying to support an asian store, we will be telling our family and friends not to shop there. Do better Shin Shin, be...
Read moreI recently had a frustrating experience at shin shin that I feel compelled to share. I visited the store and picked up a product my daughter wanted. The price was $2.95. When I went to checkout two products totaled $50.
When I brought the issue to the attention of the cashier, she informed me that the product was mislabeled—an error that affected all 25 items on the shelf. While I understand that mistakes can happen, the way the situation was handled left much to be desired. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience or offering any form of resolution, the cashier and subsequent management staff responded with a dismissive attitude. The manager condescendingly stated, "Of course, it's not that price… obviously," as if I was the one at fault for believing the clearly marked price.
When I asked to speak with a manager to address the situation, I was met with even worse customer service and found out I was speaking with her. The manager was unhelpful and seemed more concerned with defending the store's mistake than rectifying it. There was no acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused or any attempt to make it right. Instead, the condescension continued.
Overall, my experience at Shin Shin was disappointing, not just because of the mislabeled product, but due to the horrendous customer service I received. It’s disheartening to encounter such a lack of accountability and empathy in a retail environment. I left the store feeling frustrated and undervalued as a customer. I hope they can improve their customer service approach in the future, as it truly can make or break a shopper's experience. And their management should receive customer...
