I've been to many shows at Mahall's over the years and absolutely love everything about the space. I attended my first concert at The Roxy last night and was unbelievably disappointed. The venue was packed to the point that I could not make my way into the main concert area to see the headliners, Slowdive, and had to crowd in the narrow space between the restrooms and bar with dozens of other people in the same boat. While the door from The Roxy to Mahall's/bowling alley/little vintage shop was open, which seemed to encourage wandering around the awesome space, security had a major attitude about people reentering The Roxy — don't even try to get a water from anywhere BUT The Roxy bar. You will be told not to enter or to throw your full drink out. Bizarre. There were a ton of security on staff who seemed to be bumbling around not knowing what to do or in a full panic by the sheer amount of people present. Concertgoers were calm, if not overheated, so that wasn't the problem. The space had no ventilation nor AC, and it was stifling hot and uncomfortably crowded. Mahall's is lovely. The...
Read moreHate to give a local music venue a bad review but I want to warn people and provide feedback... We had a rather unpleasant experience at the sold out Slowdive concert.
First of all, I understand it was sold out but I'm pretty sure it was way over sold out. People literally couldn't fit in the room and had to gather in the lobby area with the bar and merch, without a view of the show.
Also it was the hottest indoor show I've ever experienced. And it was humid, to the point that you could see the steam??? It was bizarre. People were sweaty and overheated and had to step outside or go into the main building lobby area. Luckily the bar set out a bunch of water cups for all of the suffering people.
I will say that as a woman I really appreciated the gender neutral bathroom situation, much shorter line! Sorry to the men!
Being generous with two stars because it was probably the first sold out show at the new venue. But boy that was a rough time. Great music though,...
Read moreWent for the Slowdive show and it was terrible. As others have said, they oversold tickets. I got there a half hour before the doors opened so I was pretty close to the stage but when Slowdive came on it was so packed and ridiculously hot that I started feeling claustrophobic. I moved toward the back of the venue and it was almost impossible to get through all the people. I was shocked to find there were at least 100-150 people in the hall and lobby with zero view of the stage. Everyone who buys a ticket should at least be able to get in the same room as the stage! I’m also surprised by how many reviews think the sound is good…It was so loud that it sounded distorted. We were so uncomfortable we just left. The night was a complete waste of time and money and it kills me because I love Slowdive! I’ve seen them several times and they are always amazing live. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts and have never left one early because the venue...
