There aren't a lot of great BBQ restaurants in Cleveland, but there are plenty of good ones. Woodstock won the 2024 Scene Magazine Best BBQ in Cleveland award, beating out 2023 winner Mabel's (Michael Symon's joint). I have been to Mabel's original location downtown and to their Eastside location, and I wasn't terribly impressed. Having heard about Woodstock, I wanted to give it a try, and finally did yesterday. It was around 3:00 p.m., and we were able to walk right in and pick our table. The service was prompt throughout the visit, and our drinks and food were served quickly. I wanted to sample as much meat as I could, so I ordered the four-meat plate. My wife ordered the Turkey sandwich, and I swiped a bit of turkey, so I was able to sample five different meats. First, I love to sample the sides before I taste the meat. If a restaurant is going to make homemade sides, and not just your basic vegetable or bean, they're usually going to have some quality meat. The sides I ordered were the Kansas City Cheesy Corn, Collard Greens, and Fried Brussel Sprouts in Sweet Chili BBQ. The corn was just OK. The Collard Greens were flavorful but needed more pepper for my liking. The Brussel Sprouts were nice and caramelized, and had some great flavor. Now, on to the meat: 1. Brisket I give the brisket the lowest rating of all the meats I tasted. It was tender, but needed more of a bark to add some flavoring. 2. Wings The wings had a nice rub that coupled with the smoke flavor, really made these a delight. They were cooked well, and fell off the bone. 3. Texas Sausage This was my favorite of the meats I sampled. The sausage had a great texture and balance of meat to fat. I used all three BBQ sauces to see how each enhanced the flavor. Good stuff. 4. Rib Tips The Rib Tips were cooked well, and fell off the bone. These would make a great appetizer. 5. Turkey I stole a few pieces of my wife's Turkey Sandwich so I could sample the meat. This was some of the best smoked turkey I've had. SAUCES Sweet BBQ: Good stuff and really enhances the meat and smoke flavors. Spicy: This was just tangy, not really spicy. I wish they had something with more heat. Carolina Mustard: I'm not a big fan of the Carolina mustard-based sauces, but this was pretty good. Overall, the service was quick, the food was really good, and the sauces added some different flavor profiles into the mix. All in all, I'd agree with Woodstock beating out Mabel's for Best BBQ in Cleveland, but I haven't eaten at all the BBQ joints in the area. I hope to do that soon!

Let me start by saying we have been coming here for years and have always been pretty satisfied with the food. Unfortunately, I ordered the brisket and it was literally un edible. After chewing on it for several minutes I decided it was just best to spit it out. This was probably one of the worst portions of brisket that I have ever gotten ever and I’ve tried a bunch of places. I am blaming the cut of meat more than the process I think with quality me it would’ve been better unfortunately it was not when we let our server know she quickly offered a couple of options for us. One was another portion of brisket, the other was a different item off of the menu at first I declined, but then after the next piece of meat that I tried to eat, I was just disgusting as I stated it was literally not edible and I had to spit it out so I asked her for wings and I let her know that it would be the safer option and just to be safe getting some thing that I knew I would like I told her they could give me whatever portion they thought was fair based on the amount of meat that I had left on my plate which was almost a full half pound of brisket, so she comes out a minute later with more brisket like 1/4 of the size on my plate not the wings that I just asked for… I was just like WTH !!! she asked us if the brisket was better which it was better than what we had but it was still not that good not sure what happened there with the communication but we were given the option. We picked one and brought something different. Honestly if you’re reading this, please try the brisket it was disgusting. I can’t understand why you would even serve that , please please get better quality meat. I will never order brisket from there ever again I will certainly go there for the rest of the food. The wings are really good but the brisket was literally disgusting and I would never serve that to anyone. And if you’re going to give another portion can it be the same size portion. I feel ripped off now as this should have been handled better than this.

Warm weather and BBQ go hand in hand. I have been wanting to branch out and try the various BBQ restaurants in Cleveland, so last night I met up with some friends at Woodstock for dinner. Inside is a very eclectic collection of decorations, and is heavy on wood paneling/pieces of art. Lots of Ohio themed items, which is really cool. With such nice weather, we sat out on the patio. The bartender and servers were very pleasant, and even brought out cushions for our chairs (the wind had been blowing them away earlier, so they were kept inside). To start off I went with the Stuffed Smoked Jalapenos. They were a nice take on Jalapeno Poppers, had some spice, and overall a good smokey flavor. Capping it off I ordered the 2 meat/1 side dish. I opted for Brisket, Ribs, Mac n' Cheese, and added an order of Cole Slaw. The Brisket was tender, albeit a little dry. I didn't get much flavor from the rub, but the fatty parts were really good. Mac N' Cheese was decent, but the sauce was a little gritty. Cole Slaw was solid. Creamier than I usually like, but lots of celery seed which I fancy. Corn Bread was fluffy and sweet. My favorite part was the Ribs, which were really tender and had a good amount of rub on them. The rub was thick with a good sweetness to it. I could pull the bone clean out, which was really nice. It feels like they are trying to blend multiple BBQ styles, which can work, but may take some time. I think if they narrow down their craft some, they are on the cusp of being an elite BBQ restaurant in Cleveland. All in all, they are a good place with really friendly people. Stop by and get yourselves some BBQ!

First time customer. The reviews sold me but the product was most definitely not worthy of anything beyond 2 stars. Tried the 3 meat sampler, brisket, wings and pastrami. The portion size was enormous…could easily feed 2! The beef was coated in crushed peppercorns A LOT of peppercorns! The brisket was very lacking in flavor except for the pepper. The wings were tough and bland. The pastrami had some flavor but again mostly what I tasted was peppercorn. No real smoke flavor (if there was supposed to be). The Brussels sprouts were tasty but not cooked enough (very crunchy…maybe that’s how they are supposed to be?). Mac and cheese…ZERO flavor! I seriously could not taste cheese. Cornbread flavor was good but it was dry almost stale texture. Peach cobbler also was lacking in flavor other than the peach fruit itself and the portion was tiny. I gave 2 stars for flavor of pastrami and brussels sprouts. Overall the price was right but the quality of the product was not good. Would not go back.
