I believe that I visited on 10/4, as I’m visiting from Goose Creek, SC. I’ve have a membership for at least 20 years now, if not more when it was a very small building. I was greeted rather coldly as I approached the counter and introduced myself and handed my membership card. I was told to put on the blue tag that attaches to clothing and that I couldn’t bring my brief case inside that I had to lock it up along with my coat and hat. (I can understand theft but how can I use my genealogy research that I brought with me if it’s not aloud the the research area! I was also told that I needed an appointment to research…heck, I’m a paying member coming in from South Carolina! She said the next appointments would be at 1pm…really! I followed the rules and o did go back to the research area and spoke with the lady behind the desk. I explained who I was where I’m coming from and would like to research. It was around 12:45pm and I had to fill out paperwork. She was very friendly compared to the first encounter I had. I also wanted to donate a newer updated version of my family history and I had to fill out paperwork and hen I donated our families genealogy since I the that is already on file is old and outdated. There was only 3 people in the research room and now it’s 1pm. I got to go in. I was so taken back that I felt humiliated and only stayed for about 45 minutes. My membership card states (valid 12/13/2021 to 4/8/2023. Many Years ago this place was so nice to come to. I retired from the military in 1999, and I use to visit more prior to 1999. Since I live now in South Carolina, i don’t come up to Lancaster that much anymore. I’m real hesitant to rejoin once this membership expires. (See my membership card minus my number that I covered up). Maybe someone will reach out to me about this review. I didn’t feel...
Read moreVisited the Lancaster History Museum in April 2022. Was looking forward to a seeing a museum that documented the experiences and lives of the people who settled in Lancaster and made this their home. Hoped to see photos and artifacts documenting the neighborhoods, places where people worked, played, community organizations, churches etc. Who settled in Lancaster since it first became a town? What it was like to live in Lancaster? Instead there was one room and it chose to focus on 3 "events".. 1) event of the killing of native Americans in the 1760s 2) the civil war period and slavery in the 1860's and 3) the civil unrest in the 1960's. Once more what should have been a museum that told the whole story of Lancaster and all its peoples instead "rewrote history" by its single empahasis of politically charged events. This isn't the first time I have seen this in a museum lately. Once more "Critical Race Theory" being shoved down peoples throats. VERY disappointed. Don't waste your time. And I certainly hope the curators of this museum have a change of heart and start to tell the rest of the history...
Read moreWent here 1pm on Saturday 9/21/24. Young lady at the desk explained everything very well to myself and my fiance so we decided to do a self tour and pay the admission. As she is setting up the admission into the computer she asks me if I am over 65 for a discount, I had to ask her what she said in absolute shock, so she says it louder and my fiance hears it and was so angry because I am absolutely no where near 65 and most can't believe I am 55! I almost walked out but decided to not let it bother me, young people today have zero manners and where not taught today to be respectful, so I let it go. Wish I had told her how rude that was. She should have some retraining on how to make a statement about discounts over 65 but not actually have to ask someone...
