I am sort of torn. I used to have a comic pull box years ago there that was fantastic. In addition to this, they have a great selection of board games and are supportive enough to give a local gamer’s group space to game. But, when they bought the storefront where Whipped used to be, I heard they were going to give us a clean space to game. The back room for gaming has trash on the floor, all the tables are super tight so you can barely move around and there are piles of haphazardly thrown inventory all over. I have not used the bathroom there since pre-Covid days because last time I went in there, there were at least 20 flies hanging out in the toilet. None of the tables are disinfected either. I would offer to clean the room the night before the event if it would make the experience better for newcomers, since every other game store, from Out of the Box to Blue Bridge and beyond, has nice areas, usually in the front of the store to game. I thought this is what the new space where Whipped once stood was going to be. Stuff like this makes Lansing stores look low brow, next to Grand Rapids or Howell. Or Battle Creek. Or Flint. Or anywhere. Out of the Box has games they demo, free pizza pre-Covid (not sure about now) and everything presented classy. I might bring some sanitizer next time I game. Also, they took out their gaming library so if you don’t bring games and feel to shy to ask others to play theirs or if everyone is already matched up to games, you are out of luck. It would only be to the store’s advantage to demo in front in order to get people excited about gaming instead of the back where we aren’t seen in a place that’s...
Read moreFirst and last time I will deal with this local comic book store. I just moved into town and called in today (Saturday) at 12:45 PM to see if they could hold a copy of Ghost Tree #1 till Monday because I was traveling for work and wouldn’t be back until then. The issue had just come out three days ago. Spoke to Travis and he said they had one copy left on the shelf. He confirmed that it would be held until Monday and I even gave him my name to hold it for me. I later asked a family member to go pick it up today. When they arrived, Travis was taking his time looking for it. And then insisted that he told me there were no copies left. Why would I have left a name? And why would you have confirmed it would be held till Monday? Kind of sketchy if you ask me. It just so happened to be that this first issue of a new title had skyrocketed in value in just 3 days and someone did not know that beforehand. I’ll continue to use my comic guy on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights even though he’s two hours away. In it for the hobby not the money and very trustworthy. Gets me every issue I’ve asked for in mint condition and ships ANYWHERE.
Follow up: According to their response to my review, my number was taken down which was incorrect. Also, every comic enthusiast knows that cutoff for orders is are 3 weeks prior to release. They must be referring to the second print which I...
Read moreDecent selection of products with an emphasis on board games. Staff are not always knowledgeable about the products, so spontaneous purchases are at your own risk.
Overall, it's a good novelty shop but its a bit pricey. If you know what you want, shopping around will likely produce a better deal. But if you're in a hurry or don't mind the $$; it is a good stop.
Edit/Update: Management has taken measures to increase the product knowledge and the overall experience has improved at Summit. I continue to shop here and I recommend the store to others.
Update: 8/2023 - The two best things about this store are gone: the loyalty program and the personal service. On a recent visit, I inquired about a product that was not in stock. The employee began looking it up on the computer when another customer asked for assistance. This employee left me standing at the counter and simply walked away. There were others there who were assisting the other customer, so I was baffled at the lack of courtesy. I waited for a few minutes for assistance, but they didn't return.
The product knowledge of the employees has not seemed to have improved, and the customer service is embarrassing, in my opinion. As a long-time customer, I am truly saddened by...
