Let me preface this by saying I have only left reviews for a handful places in my life. But Veg Head was so amazing that I just have to leave a review! My girlfriend and I went there for the first time this past weekend, and I immediately knew that this is totally a place that could become my new "go-to" place downtown, not only for eating, but popping open my laptop and hanging out and using their free wi-fi to do work. The roasted Brussels sprouts, cauliflower street tacos and jalapeño mac and cheese are AMAZING. I'm vegetarian and lactose-intolerant, and I can't even describe the feeling of absolute joy at having the freedom to order literally everything on the menu without having to look for V's or green dots or descriptions to parse out what's vegan, vegetarian or will require me to take some lactase pills. It's been 8 years since becoming vegetarian and discovering my lactose intolerance, and nothing felt more amazing than going to a vegan place in Ann Arbor and realizing I could get literally anything and not have to worry. But of course, that was A2, not here, and I've been desperately wishing ever since that Lansing had a vegan place like that — and now here it is! After my first visit, I went back literally three days later just by myself — and I don't think I've ever dined in just by myself anywhere! — and had the same exact thing I'd ordered the first time, it was that good! I made sure to tip 25% both times because I SO want this business to thrive. I'm sure you'll...
Read moreWas super excited for this restaurant but I'm honestly disappointed in the items I tried.
I started with the cauliflower wings which, for the price point I expected more from. The BBQ sauce was overpowering to the point where I had to scrape most of it off to enjoy the appetizer. Even then the flavor was too much and the cauliflower was unable to balance it. There also wasn't a lot for $12 and they werent breaded very much (or maybe they were and the sauce made them soggy).
Next the Mac and cheese: once again for the price point I was expecting something much better. Honestly prefer box vegan Mac and cheese to this one. There isn't much flavor going on and the texture is just okay. Was expecting something more decadent or creamy. It barely resembles the taste of vegan cheese.
Lastly the chicken tenders. This was the best out of everything I've tried but honestly it was mid. Once again, have had frozen vegan tenders more flavorful and enjoyable than this. You only get 3 (and they aren't that large), plus a big batch of decent French fries for $12.
Perhaps it's the items I tried and there are other things on the menu more worth the price, but I'm not willing to spend another $30-40 or so to find out. These items don't pack much flavor for the price...
Read moreI feel like people give this place a lot of credit because it's a vegan restaurant and they're not actually critiquing the food. For the price of their food you would think they would put a little more effort into it I've gone multiple times and I've gotten different things.
When I ordered the cake they didn't inform me that they were out of ice cream, so I paid full price for an item that didn't have everything that came with it.
The mac and cheese was awful, not much sauce on the noodles, and the "loaded"jalapeno popper had a total of six pickled jalapenos and barely any bread crumbs and was super bland.
The barbecue jackfruit sandwich was delicious no complaints
I ordered one of the specials, it said it was a multigrain bowl with black beans, but it wasn't a grain bowl it was a iceberg salad. I payed $12 for iceberg lettuce and cold black beans.
The brussel sprouts are not cleaned properly you are left with a giant chunk of the stem on every brussel making it tough and unpleasant.
I can only hope that this place will actually take critiques into consideration, because they have the right idea just the...
