Highland Recreation Center is SO FUN! If you’re familiar with the terms “sensory-seeking, heavy work, & proprioceptive input”, put this on the top of your must-visit list! We went there for their PlayWorld which is a 3-story indoor playground for children ages 0-11. They have a smaller indoor play place for children ages 0-5 which is perfect for busy days. After we spent an hour in the playworld, my 2.5-year-old toddler was ready to go to his other favorite park of Highland Rec, their outdoor playground! FYIs: Socks are required and we prefer to use the ones we have from a trampoline park. Food and drinks are not permitted within the playworld but you can bring them to enjoy before/after. Highland Rec has restrooms and a drinking fountain. According to their website, Highland offers programs, classes and events for nearly every interest and age. The facility features 1/13 mile walking track, party rooms, a game room, a licensed preschool for 3-5 year olds, after school care, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a fitness center, a functional training room, two program rooms, and the tallest municipal water slide in Pinellas County at the Highland Family Aquatic Center. The pool will be open for recreational swim sessions on Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 3! (Session 1: 10am-12pm / Session 2: 12:30-2:30pm). Weekday recreational swim will begin June 2, 2025. Location: Highland Recreation Center 400 Highland Avenue, Largo, FL 33770 Hours: -Monday-Friday: 8a-7p -Saturday: 7a-2:30p -Sunday: 9a-2:30p *Please note: Large groups expected during holiday breaks and schools out days M-F, 8a-6p. Itty Bitty Playtime Rate and Schedule: -Itty Bitty playtime is designated for children under the age of 5 (no children over 5 are permitted). This time allows the little ones to interact while parents assist. Parents can climb with their children during this time. We went to the indoor playground 🛝 at Highland Recreation complex. They had a blast! Taylor was not aloud to go on the big yellow slide 🛝, so that kinda sucked trying to keep her off of that while her sister got to go down! But there where 2 other slides 🛝 she could go on! #highlandparkrecreationcente#girlmom #girlgang #girlmomof2 #girlsquad #momlife #toddlermom #preteeenmom #playgroundday

It would be a 5 if it weren’t for the lifeguards, the facilities are clean, they have great programs for kids sports, and the pool is nice too. I will say this whole 2 session pool day nonsense isn’t cool, we’re happy to pay more to not have to leave for 30 minutes midday. They say it’s to give more people the opportunity to come to the pool but the people at the second session are typically the people from the first. Would I trust any of the lifeguards to put a bandaid on a kiddo let alone watch over them in the water? Definitely not. The guards here are probably the worst I’ve ever come across. To the point where it’s actually dangerous sometimes. My family and I have been coming to the pool here in the summer for a few years and unfortunately the lifeguards have never improved. They are constantly sending kids that are too small down the slides, talking with other guards and socializing in the guard chair not paying attention to what’s going on around them, letting kids sit at the bottom of the slides, and letting kids run on the slick pool deck. I understand that the guards are high school kids, but they definitely have no concept of how quickly a small kid can drown or how seriously injured someone could get out here. Luckily we’ve taught our kiddos water safety and to never get in the water here without us. It’s truly a shame, the guards at splash harbor and the ymca that used to be up the road were way more attentive and actually enforced safety rules. The picture attached is from 7/4/2022. Kids were running and jumping into the pool at the bottom of the slides and the girl in the guard chair could care less.

Lmao if I could give 0 stars I would .. I've never had a good experience here at all. And don't get me started about the basketball team. Basketball team thinks that they can put players in different leagues to verse other teams. I personally been coaching high school basketball for about 8 years. Not once can you put different players in from other leagues but from the same home team to verse the opposite team but they came to our hometown doing that and when our referees and coaches tried to tell them that it was against the rules they did not want to listen and one of the mothers caused a huge commotion for the Lakers. Causing our team to lose completely because she interrupted the whole first half of the game. And the coach didn't bat an eye to it. It was a 10 to 12 year old league. Not only is it unfair to our team but to the opposing team as well. Very unprofessional. Very unsportsmanlike ship. Like I said I've been coaching high school basketball for many years of my life and I've never seen anything along these lines where the mother comes in and tries recording our home team's coach because he told her it was against the rules. What an embarrassment to the community. Not only that but the two kids that she had playing that weren't supposed to be playing because it's technically cheating and every single rule book a basketball, they were disgusting and disrespectful. Which shows a lot of character on her behalf. Absolutely zero respect for the sport. Especially for the ones that take it seriously and enjoy the sport. The coach remain to do nothing about it except put the kids that weren't supposed to be playing into the game. Very embarrassing for the community. Very distracting for people trying to watch the ones that are supposed to be playing. Us parents play money for our kids to do this. Not for any kind of drama to be involved. I've never left a review in my life but this deserves it. Not only that but last time my children played basketball at the largo rec center, the janitor rolled his eyes at us and proceeded to tell us that we went out the wrong door and told us to never come back if we can't figure out how to go out the right door. The disrespect and disgusting character of this community has really upset me. Everyone is extremely unkind and UN welcoming. I'd never go...

Great facility as far as the massive property, pool, and parks.

My review has to do with the school after care and summer programs. We have had multiple issues with bullying, our son seeing inappropriate things on older kids phones, just overall young “coaches” (teenagers) not properly caring for the kids.

If your child is even slightly different (autism, adhd, disabled) please do not bring your child here. When he had his entire backpack thrown in a dumpster by an older kid (they say they separate them but they really don't) nothing was done. But when we accidentally took another kids water bottle home and it was lost we were asked to replace it? Like 3 times they must have asked. All those kids coming in at $75 a week and y’all cant afford a water bottle? Take that money and spend on proper training for your staff PLEASE.

He has been hit and picked on over and over but when he defends himself against kids much older than himself, our child is the one reprimanded. Im sure because he has ADHD and is seen as a problem-child by the 18 year olds with bare minimum training who don't know any type of mediation or coping skills.

We dealt with it for a while because they pick up from our sons school and not many places offer that. We will now be making other arrangements as we have seen our sons confidence take a huge hit and had him asking us concerning questions due to older kids showing him inappropriate videos on their phones (which theyre not allowed to have but always do?)

& Don't get me started on the $600 pool party we paid for last year with the worst service from the staff and tons of random kids coming into our area. There were fully clothed adults that we paid $8 a person for to literally stand there. Thanks for the $600...
