First and foremost- I think most of the gentleman that work there are great guys and want to make sure its known I have mostly good experiences here.
An honest review- UPDATE FROM PRIOR REVIEW. Recently I had an issue with one of the managers, after discussing with one of the other employees, the manager had apologized and everything is water under the bridge as they say. No need to hold grudges. While I like shopping at their locations in Lawton, I don't always agree on their practices, but it's nice to find a good deal. It's for a good cause and I totally will continue to shop here as long as we are treated with dignity, and fairness.
Heres My issue - while I've shopped consistently for years like many, during that time I've noticed certain customers have an arrangement where they get 1st dibs on all the toys, collectibles and vintage similar items that we frequently search for. These items are donated, and should make it to the sales floor like everythingelse, but that doesn't happen. They get set aside every week, sometimes a couple times a week, and a guy comes in and get hooked up with all those items- ( Action figures, toys, games, video games and other similar everyone wants) at both locations. I'm sure this happens with a lot of stuff and it's just not right. If hes the only guy getting this hook up ensuring he gets all the collectors items, this isnt cool with me. So, I asked a manager at the 52 street location how to get in on that deal and was met with some attitude. Obviously if it was on the up and up, Noone would be getting defensive on my question- also one of the employees agreed with me on that point.. Anyway, I asked how is it that Noone else gets a shot at these things and this other non employee can just walk into the back and or have bins full of toys and collectors items handed to him and for decent prices..or, sometimes like when I was in line dude didnt even pay while I was there unless he jumped the line or there was an agreed to price before hand... Interesting- just saying. How does a guy walk in and while we are in line paying is he handed items in bins and walks out? Odd..
Bottom line up front, it should be first come first serve. It's just a little unfair business practices for someone who's there consistently and items I'm looking for get handed off on reserve by the bin full? So I put my name in the little book the manager said to see if I get any calls... I feel all items that are donated should be fair game to anyone in the store and put on the floor. Many people frequent those stores. If someone is looking for certain items, let the stuff hit the floor and let everyone know what you got and 1st come 1st serve. Believe me, if that guy is buying it, so will I and a lot of others. To make my point I asked if they would hold all gold and silver jewlery for me...I'd like the same deal please...? Point made my guy. In short it was an honest question that wasn't appropriately responded to which escalated into sarcasm and me explaining that if everyone doesn't get that treatment, then it's not right. Period. EVERYONE in line agreed.
I think everyone can agree picking and digging is work and time consuming and many live off the picker game. I'm just looking for a fair shot. I get up early and if I'm there 1st, I should be able to have a chance at buying these items. It just seems a little...
Read moreI just wanted to give some credit where credit is due, Sonrise Thrift Store is the BEST place to shop. The staff are courteous and helpful. They are genuinely happy to help. "T" aka Terry has been with them for many years and is always a delight every time I see him. I love what this organization does for men seeking a better life for themselves. There is a particular gentleman in there when I usally go (cant think of his name) but he is always singing praise and worship music. Makes me happy to shop here and I will continue to show my support for these guys. I will also continue to hold them up in prayer through all of their journeys. Blessed to know such great people and some of these men getting second chances in life with an organization backing them. May God continue to shine his light through these people so that they can shine their light back into their community. Great job guys, this is where I do my thirft shopping at for...
Read morethe employees at this location always give me such an unsettling feeling. i’ve been here multiple times and have always left uncomfortable. i have heard one of the workers talking about looking under my skirt when i was 16… i’ve been followed around the store, guy tried to hit on me right in front of my boyfriend, and one of the workers was looking at me very weirdly from the back room. i don’t think i’ll be able to support this kind of business. i fully understand that the people working there are working to live a better life but they should not be acting...
