Title: Discovering Local History at the Harmon Museum
Rating: ★★★★☆
Nestled in the heart of Lebanon, Ohio, the Harmon Museum offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into the rich history of the area. This small-town museum may not be as grandiose as some larger institutions, but it certainly packs a punch when it comes to showcasing local heritage.
The Harmon Museum is housed in a charming building that exudes a sense of history. Upon entering, I immediately found myself surrounded by a diverse array of exhibits, each telling a unique story about the region's past. From Native American artifacts to displays on early settlers and the development of local industries, the museum covers a wide range of topics.
One of the standout features of the Harmon Museum is its attention to detail. The exhibits are well-curated, with informative signage that provides context and background information. Whether it's a replica of an early 19th-century log cabin or a display on the town's role in the Underground Railroad, the museum offers a comprehensive and engaging experience.
What sets the Harmon Museum apart is its commitment to preserving and showcasing Lebanon's history. The museum actively collects and displays artifacts donated by members of the community, ensuring that the stories and memories of the past are not lost. This community involvement adds a personal touch to the exhibits and creates a sense of connection between visitors and the local heritage.
While the museum's collection is impressive, the limited space can sometimes feel cramped. The exhibits are tightly packed together, which can make it challenging to fully appreciate each display. However, the museum staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always eager to provide additional information and answer questions, which helps to enhance the overall experience.
One of the museum's highlights is its rotating exhibits, which showcase different aspects of Lebanon's history. These temporary displays offer a fresh perspective and provide an opportunity for repeat visits. From themed exhibits on Lebanon's sports teams to showcases of local artists, these changing displays keep the museum dynamic and relevant to the community.
The Harmon Museum also offers educational programs and events for visitors of all ages. From guided tours to lectures and workshops, there are ample opportunities to delve deeper into the history of the region. These programs make the museum an excellent resource for both locals and tourists looking to learn more about Lebanon and its surrounding areas.
Overall, the Harmon Museum is a hidden gem that offers a delightful journey through the history of Lebanon. While its small size may limit the depth of some exhibits, the museum's commitment to community involvement and its informative displays make it a worthwhile visit. For anyone interested in local history or looking for a unique cultural experience, the Harmon Museum is definitely worth exploring.

Read moreI was actually there to assist my father in updating or restoring databases. I work occasionally for Access Computers and we have been there prior to COVID-19, working on their server updating, creating a backup etc. They use proprietary software to save their data and they also work those techs as well as Access Computers.
I was allowed to once see the museum and actually it should say library too as many people go there to research their records. It's spacious, quite easy to view most of the displays. Some of the areas where the research books and collections are no easy for people who may use a wheelchair or a walker without some assistance.
They do have handicapped parking available and an elevator for both staff and guests. There is a large hall perfect for events and I think, if I remember correctly, a stage as well... As I remember in 2019 there was either a play or perhaps it was a reading of some sort either way it was all very pleasant. Very clean, spacious (in most areas), and occasionally there is that scent of age often found with historical or vintage items - especially books.
Someday, I would like to go there and enjoy a visit that's not because I'm there to update software or technology, but to see the vintage and historical content available to view and review.
Also the staff are very knowledgeable about the items in their possession err that are donated to the museum.
To answer owner's questions. I knew the museum wasn't open. That's not why I gave it four stars instead of 5, I have only seen bits and pieces of the museum, when I'm there with my dad to fix or update computers, or assist him with the database, when required. I plan on seeing the rest (hopefully) when my friends come into town this summer because we'll all be vaccinated by then. I would like to see the rest before giving a...
Read moreGuilty! I didn’t think this place was going to be interesting! It is! It’s also deceptively huge, and honestly you wouldn’t think it from its demure front door which is in the back where the parking lot is. Ohy, the giant meeting space is well worth a look too. There’s only so much a city budget will allow for a museum. I have to admit It’s obvious this is a labor of love and commitment. And you can get a little bit of everything here. Mostly You see what Victorian style homes were set up once in their rooms, then items are littered across the whole museum showing the history of the past community that made this part of Ohio come into existence in the early 1800’s. The real shockers how they were able to set it up to make it feel like you were there with rooms that engulf you into that time, come and enjoy. If you can stay the night over at the Golden Lamb, that completes the...
