We were served racial bias & hatred cold. My husband and i love to explore small eateries. With rave reviews, this one stood out. On August 19th, we drove an hour from Univ of Cincinnati to reach this place. But once there, we only felt that the waitress showed nothing but resentment towards us. We ordered a chicken burger, cheese sandwich, turtle sundae and chocolate lava cake with fresh raspberry / sauce. While other guests were being served the food on ceramic plates, we were served burger & Sandwich in styrofoam plates, and were offered no sauce, ketchup or sides at all.
Despite her unpleasant behaviour, we gave her a benefit of doubt since the restaurant was busy (3/4th of the restaurant was full). And we wanted to give it a fair chance. We drove an hour to get here. But things only got worse.
We weren't served water, we were asked to fetch it ourselves from the counter. She walked up to our table, piled the food boxes up on our table & swiftly left, like it was a to go order, when she was fully aware that we were dining in. She didn't come take any further orders. I then ordered for a chocolate lava cake with raspberries to go, since they were busy. It took forever, so I walked up to them and reminded them. The waitress then goes in, heats the Lava Cake, puts it in a Styrofoam box accompanied with very little Raspberry sauce and no fruit inside. I ask her, she unapologetically mentions they've run out of the berries. I request her for a little more sauce. she hesitatingly obliges. The whole experience was discriminatory to say the least. She projected so much bias towards serving us, i don't think i can describe in words.
While fast food occupies an outsized place in American culture, small heritage eateries represent cultural ethos of the region, and we love to support local communities. While food was great, people working in these places should be cautious not to channel their personal biases onto customers. She was rude. I am deeply hurt, will be vary of entering a this restaurant again to avoid such...
Read moreFirst time recently went and it smelled so good in there. Like an old fashioned ice cream parlor. Food was ok, liked the burger but the fried chicken sandwich was REALLY good. My mother is elderly and has problems hearing and has a speech problem. The only thing that upset me was the manager. Young girl that was totally unprofessional. Allyson was her name and we won't be back because of her. She was rude and shouldn't be a a manager. My mother was having a difficult time telling her what she wanted and she was so impatient. I asked to see a a manger and she replied "yep your lookin at her" she wasn't busy so I didn't understand what the rush was well she didn't write down our order and screwed it up. We did get the food remade but she never checked back the second time. Poor service, she was too busy talking to a young man about her plans for the evening. Noticed her grabbing fries off another customers plate in the food window. I was shocked. She never offered us more to drink and I had to get up and ask the young man for a check. I asked for Allyson and he said she was busy in the office. He would ring us up. I asked for someone else in charge and he said she was the only manager and she was busy. There were only 4 other people in there. I never saw her again. In my opinion they should have someone else in charge maybe someone with people skills. I tipped the young man instead of her, hopefully he kept it. We won't be...
Read moreThe Village Parlor is a fantastic, old fashioned restaurant with outstanding, attentive customer service. The Village Parlor is a great place for the family, friends, and even kids to get the best comfort foods, authentic drinks, milkshakes, and a delicious variety of ice cream with homemade waffle cones! I definitely recommend this place for both tourists and locals. I personally recommend trying their old fashioned style drinks and their chili cheese fries for a filling, shareable appetizer. The atmosphere was really welcoming, and the drinks are one of kind. I have not been able to find a refresher like their nectar phosphate anywhere else in Lebanon, Ohio. You can also get other flavors besides the nectar, but it is my personal favorite. My friend got an additional bowl of chili because it was so delicious! The chef salad she ordered also looked very hearty and tasty. I got the Fish and Chips dinner. Although it only came with one piece of fish, it was a big piece of fish. Both flaky and moist. One cool factor of the parlor is that multiple movies have been featured and/or filmed here for the historic point of view. If you are into great tasting and affordable food, special drinks, delucatable ice cream, and movies this is the place for you! I went around 6 pm on a Wednesday evening, and it was not very busy. I also noticed they have remodeled, so improvements are...
