TLDR: If you're over 6' tall or a smoker, don't go unless you can afford good seats and refrain for the duration.
My wife and I attended the Lexington Opera House to see the Bebop Bounty Big Band on 04-07-24. We had a wonderful day, until the show. First, the band uses the screen behind the performers for pacing, context and a light laugh throughout the show. But if you're on the 3rd floor, don't count on that, you won't be able to see all of the screen because of the curtain above the stage. Also, if you're over 6' you had better have some way to shorten your legs if your on the 3rd floor because the seats are too close together. I'm not exaggerating, I could not physically sit in the seat with my foot flat on the floor, my calf and shin were pressed hard against the seatback of the row ahead of me. I spent the majority of the performance standing at the highest point in the theater between two spotlights. Lets talk about policies: Review after review talk about how nice the staff are... Sure they were polite enough but reason doesn't seem to enter into the equation. Remember I talked about physical discomfort with the seating? Well my wife approached an Usher about moving to unoccupied seats once the show starts. Nope, not allowed. Okay, fine. Spoke to another usher who laughed off my discomfort saying she had been working there since 1986 and had heard the complaint many times. She at least made a half hearted attempt at compromise, she pointed out a chair at the very top of the theater and said I could sit there. At first, I thought, well that is something and I'm so uncomfortable, sure, sounds great. But when I tried to grab a second chair located not even five feet away for my wife to sit in... No, that's not allowed! What? Why? Is this a freakin magic chair? Why is one acceptable and the other not acceptable? Okay, where do I get another chair like this one? "That's the only one up here." So Your compromise is only available if I don't sit with my wife? From where we're sat I can literally see 20 identical chairs in the completely unoccupied boxes, guess those are magic chairs, too. Okay, intermission arrives, and we're smokers, so we head down the stairs to have a quick puff on the vape. Can someone explain why in the hell would you have a strict no re-entry policy in a venue that has a gated parking lot? Never heard of a hand stamp, huh? Oh and another thing, where is your strict no re-entry policy posted? Because I was one of the first people in the theater that night and I sure didn't see it. But don't worry I guess, because the security and ushers will turn a blind eye to people smoking in the stairwell during the show. The performers were great and the show was very enjoyable, pity the venue nearly ruined it. Last thought, I've had this account since 2012ish and to my recollection, I do not believe I have ever left a negative review on anything. That should serve as an indicator of how disappointed I am...
Read moreTo begin with, the concert staff and ushers were all great! Entry into the Opera House was quick and easy. Seating, was a huge disappointment to say the least. We went to see Old Dominion in concert last night. However, after being in our seats for maybe a couple minutes, we left...it was totally unacceptable to even sell those seats at a fraction of the cost of what we paid for them
Our seats were on the third level. Granted, this was our first visit to The Lexington Opera House, so we knew very little about it. very little legroom for a guy that is 6' 3" and even worse shoulder room...and our view would have been limited to maybe half of the stage at best. That was unacceptable to me at $125 per seat.
I'm sure the main level would have been fine, maybe even the second level would have been fine as well. However, there should have been a disclaimer when purchasing tickets for the third level that the view would be limited to maybe half of the stage...forget mentioning the legroom. Had I known the seats would have been that horrible, we would have just gone to Jeff Ruby's for a really nice dinner. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has a better view of the entire racetrack than these seats had of the band. The Opera House shouldn't even offer the third level seating for sale.
The two stars is only because of the staff. We have no desire to return to give it a second shot or better review unless we had tried seats on...
Read moreNot Good. went to see my first musical on 9/20/2024, sat in the top mezzanine. I'm 6'4" and there was very little room for my legs and long feet...very uncomfortable. (reminded me of being on a commercial airline...packed in tight and Lord help us if we need to evacuate quickly.) our view was blocked by the front safety rail and posts I scanned visually, not many seats were any better. 15 minutes into the performance they had sound issues. the play was stopped for several mixtures without communication/explanation.
Concerning the Staff... were not particular happy to be there and not particularly friendly.
play was about 3/4 through and fire alarm went off. Staff did not appear to know what to do. communication over the intercom system was almost non-exinsistant. The crowd weren't sure what to do but all I wanted was to get my date out quickly and safely. Finally made it out through all the confusion and lack of leadership from the staff. if there was an actual fire, this venue would be facing lawsuits for the loss of life, poor evacuation avenues and procedures. I would not recommend this place, but nothing would make me happier than to be proved wrong on all the above...
