This place is great! If you put it in your gps, it takes you right to it, like right to the "Rosie's beach" sign.
Parking is regular, cheap, metered parking, where you pay at a pay station. I was there for 2 hours and it was $2. Right now there are social distancing spots where you are not supposed to park. If you park in one of these spots, the machine will warn you that you can't park there and you may get ticketed. I didn't want to risk it, so I moved my car (twice). There were spots that were expressly labeled "DO NOT PARK" but the two spots where I tried to park were not labeled.
The bathrooms and showers are open and available (and gross). There's also a water fountain.
I went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy, but there was plenty of space for all the humans to properly social distance while the dogs did their dog stuff. As others have stated, the dog owners and dogs are really super chill. I didn't see any aggressive dogs and I felt like my 13lb yorki-poo was totally safe at all times. I was actually pretty amazed at how chill all the dogs behaved.
I brought my human daughters too and they enjoyed the water. It's still really cold. The waves are very mild and the water is relatively clear. It's mostly sandy and the sand is softer and less rocky than other beaches. We also saw a small pod of dolphins.
I'm definitely going to go back. I'd like to check it out on a weekday and try to...
Read moreSweet 4 mi stretch of play heaven for off-leash or on-leash pups. Stay between the 2 lifeguard stations with large painted pet paw prints on them! Most who have off-leash dogs are careful when approaching on-leash dogs, which is an outward sign for timid, aggressive, or non-approach dogs. Smaller waves let dogs barrel into the ocean chasing their ball, stick, or toy. Pups are free to roam for socializing, with their humans following. Clean, and very well maintained. Nearer towards the parking lot are trash receptacles & dog bags in case you forgot your bags, but it's a safer idea to bring your own just in case the bag dispenser is empty. Also nearer the parking area is a restroom building, and a ground-level & people-level spray shower area. There is also a smaller wash-off station where the parking lot meets the sand. Water rinse only, no shampoos - water drains into the ocean. Parking is free. Each time I've visited I've encountered friendly people. One exception, an older woman who couldn't handle her two blind dogs, whilr she screamed at people who were not close to her, to get away from her. Go figure. If it's obvious you can not handle your dog, don't be surprised if you're called on it. Rosie's Beach is an on your honor area - know your pet's limitations, socialization ability, and personality. Clean up after your pup. Enjoy watching...
Read moreLet’s start with the positive points. It’s $1 per hr here which is way cheaper than 3.50 per hour at Huntingtion. A lot more diversity at this location when it comes to types of people. We have been here a couple times and never had a problem parking. It is a straight shot straight to the beach so if you’re not good at declining or going up a steep incline this is a Great Beach for you. The actual dog beach area doesn’t feel that big to me. I was able to walk from one end of the Rosie’s dog beach to the other Really fast. It also doesn’t feel like part of the beach that you hang out at in front of the water is that wide. So it feels like all the dogs and all the people are we closer together. If you love to interact with other dogs and people, this is a Great Beach because you’re really close to each other. I’m not a huge fan. If I had to take somebody to a Dog Beach. I honestly would choose Huntington but that’s just my preference. This could be great for the right person. I mean super cheap parking is always a plus. I had a lot of trouble walking all the way to the other side of the beach to see if that was a bathroom, so I never actually found the bathrooms. There were a few food trucks in the...
