If you value fairness, professionalism, or simply a night out free from hostility, avoid Legends Restaurant and Bar at all costs. This establishment, or more accurately, this den of misandry and discriminatory behavior, has reached new depths of disgraceful conduct. Here’s my harrowing experience with their security staff and management, which speaks volumes about their incompetence and prejudice.
The Incident
I was out with two friends, minding my own business, when I was rudely and baselessly accused of impersonating security. Why? Because I was wearing a black shirt and black pants with earbuds in to block out the excessive noise of their loud music. This ridiculous accusation led to a hostile confrontation where I was aggressively told to leave.
The security claimed they had spoken to me "months ago" about this issue, which was a complete fabrication. I have never been approached or warned before. They had no evidence of their claim but continued to push this false narrative to justify their behavior. This blatant dishonesty is not only unprofessional but legally questionable.
Discrimination and Bias
The real issue here? Misandry and blatant discrimination against me as a male. Security guards have no legal authority to harass patrons for their attire unless there is a clearly posted dress code. Legends has no such dress code. Many patrons wear black, yet I was singled out due to my muscular build and gender. Their behavior was laced with discriminatory stereotypes, treating me as a "problem" simply for existing in their bar.
This hostility escalated to physical violence. When I refused to leave immediately—because my friends were in the restroom—the security guard physically shoved me and threatened further violence. These threats are not only morally reprehensible but also a blatant violation of California law.
Legal Violations
Let’s be clear about what Legends and their security staff violated:
California Penal Code § 240 (Assault): The physical shoving and threats made by their security constitute assault.
California Civil Code § 51 (Unruh Civil Rights Act): Discrimination based on my appearance, gender, and attire is a violation of my civil rights.
California Evidence Code § 780: The staff's fabricated claims of prior warnings and misrepresentations demonstrate a clear intention to lie, which casts doubt on the integrity of their actions.
California Business and Professions Code § 25602.1: Their refusal of service and hostile conduct lacked justification and crossed into discriminatory territory.
The Aftermath
After I was shoved and threatened, security followed me outside, continuing their harassment. They informed me that I was permanently banned ("eighty-sixed for life") and instructed other guards to memorize my face. Why? Because I dared to exist in their bar without bowing to their baseless accusations.
I had spent money at this establishment, buying drinks for myself and my friends, yet I was treated like a criminal for no reason other than their unbridled hostility and discriminatory agenda.
Conclusion
Legends Restaurant and Bar is a haven for discriminatory practices, unprofessionalism, and outright hostility. They are unfit to operate a business in a state that values civil rights and fairness. Their behavior was not only inappropriate but also likely illegal, violating multiple California laws and regulations.
I will be filing formal complaints with the appropriate authorities, including the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH), and considering legal action for their appalling conduct. To anyone reading this: save yourself the trouble and avoid this establishment at all costs.
Legends Restaurant and Bar is not a place of entertainment; it’s a breeding ground for hostility, discrimination, and unchecked security misconduct. Their actions are reprehensible, and they deserve to face accountability for their...
Read moreBeware of sexist and very aggressive security!!! My friend and I got into an altercation with the security guards here because my friend brought a bottle in her bag into the bar. We are aware that we were in the wrong and as soon as they saw the bottle they asked for us to get rid of it however, after we got out of line to throw the bottle away, a different security comes up to my friend and saying that his manager "saw what happened" we can't go into the bar for the rest of the night because of the bottle. I requested to speak to the manager so that we could come to an understanding about the situation. This used to be my favorite bar on 2nd St so that's why I decided to stand up for my friend and I. The manager was honestly pretty polite and had an issue with the bottle because "he didn't know if we drank all of the bottle ourselves" and basically didn't want to deal with us later. We clearly weren't drunk enough to have drunken a whole bottle so it was clear he was being unfair. At some point his security guards stepped in and said to him "You're being too nice" to his MANAGER lol and threatened to call the police on us. We continued to argue and they had to hold back one of their security guards from hitting me I guess which is certainly odd considering my friend and I were both women and we weren't planning on putting our hands on any of the 5 men that were yelling back at us. While this is happening, a man gets in line with a paper bag with a can in it, the security guard tells him to finish the can then he can come in.. So naturally I ask what the difference is and he claims that the man "wasn't in line yet" and we were in line trying to sneak in... mind you this man was also in line. Clearly, the security are inexperienced and need to be on the same page when it comes to policies. Please be safe and avoid this bar...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed. Knowing that this is a hot spot for Long Beach ,Belmont shore it was terrible! I had a party of 16 coming to the restaurant and I asked if I could be in the waiting list. The host gave me a two hour wait. I said that’s fine. My friends aren’t coming until later. The host said okay we’ll call you when your table is ready. I’m a patient person also I worked in a restaurant before so I know how a table count/ sitting guest goes. I wasn’t far from the area and I saw that there were two tables that could be used for my party. Since our party was big enough for two or more tables. The host didn’t have any of our tables ready. So we all had to sit around in one table until tables got up. The server came to us and took our drink order. Then it took awhile for us to get our drinks. A lot of my friend’s drinks were water down and just too much alcohol. Then it took the server a cool minute to take our food order. We were already buzzed and haven’t eaten which wasn’t good because most of us drove. The food was alright. It’s bar food can’t really complain. Then some of my friends wanted a different drink because it was really bad so we asked to get another one. The server was really busy which I get. It’s probably because they were slammed and I wouldn’t doubt the manager doesn’t know how to manage a huge party. But it took about 10 minutes for my friends to get a different drink and that other drink they order wasn’t good either. So we all asked for the check and head out. We had some good moments but the experience with the restaurant was terrible! Not sure if they just have horrible bar service and management but I wouldn’t go back. Not worth it. I feel bad for the the staff that has to work under a poor customer...
