Read the menu and reviews and I thought this was my place. It has an incredible layout and I can’t see how this used to be a Hof’s Hut. Hostess was so nice as was our waitress. Menu was amazing and we couldn’t wait to try it. The Bloody Mary was excellent, I love the blue cheese stuffed olives. My son got the fresh squeezed orange juice and it was great. My brother and I both ordered the House Smoked Tri-tip hash, it was really good but after reading the menu I had my hopes set a little too high. I like my eggs runny, but these were on the rare side, the white surrounding the yolk was clear, not a sign of being cooked. I eat Tar-Tar with raw eggs so this doesn’t bother me but my brother, and probably 90% of people, would be turned off. Potatoes were very crispy which was a perfect compliment to the runny eggs. Meat was good as were the veggies. My wife ordered the crab and avocado toast, it was really good with the eggs poached as I would like them, but most people would prefer a little more done. Her biggest complaint was the amount of crab. I question, but don’t stand behind, whether that was actually lump (back fin) crab meat or just Krab. I lived on the Chesapeake Bay for many years and know what good lump crab meat is, I assumed this was imitation crab until I just looked at the menu where they call it lump meat. Anyone that serves “lump crab” tries their best to keep it in a lump, otherwise you could just use regular crab meat. My son had waffles, and with any 12 year old as long as there is syrup and sugar they are happy. They looked really good.
So what caused the four stars? While we were eating our food our waitress came by and informed us that she was on her lunch break and another waitress would take care of us, no big deal it’s a normal occurrence. The only problem was after our waitress left no one came and checked on any of the four tables that she was in charge of. The table next to us just wanted their check, another one just wanted their food which took forever. It got so bad that we finished with no one checking on us and then we were looking for our check so we could go. One person came out and said she would get the check and later on another person came out and he didn’t know what was going on. While all this was happening I decided to walk around the restaurant and check out the bathroom. This place is truly amazing in what they did with the decor. There are pockets all over the place with a different ambience. The bathroom is upstairs but that didn’t bother me, it was super clean and aesthetically pleasing they had big open balconies with couch seating and tall tables and I think they even had a fire pit. This place is great for people watching and hanging out with friends, they even had a private dining room. If you come by, make sure you walk around the entire restaurant so you can see how amazing it is. All the staff we encountered were very friendly but once our waitress went to lunch everyone in her section was forgotten about. Having said all that, I would...
Read moreJust getting in from Reno, I was hungry I hadn't eaten all day and I was looking for something that was reasonably priced. Yet also tastes good but, it was also a was a quintessential or at least a good Long Beach experience. I found it! I found it in a place that made me feel like I wasn't spending too much yet not getting enough! I also felt a high degree of hospitality and respect that establishment like this commanded. I came in again with a lot of bags from my flight at the airport. The hostess was extremely gracious and helpful in helping my stow my bags and it was a secure, safe location near the door.
That was a win for me right off the bat. So I was given the option to sit in a booth or a bar location. I chose the bar, the bartender's male and female were extremely knowledgeable and responsive to my needs. Also I got lucky that it wasn't very busy at that time of the evening and they were managing a major event upstairs on the balcony which got my attention at the bat. It was a wine tasting which appeared to be of a major event. Which tells me that this is a major draw in this neck of the woods.
So I ordered a Western Burger for 15 which I thought was recently priced and a reasonable size. I did ask some questions on the size of the Patty and forgot to follow up on that. Nevertheless, I wasn't disappointed on that Patty or the burger.
I proceeded to order the burger and enjoyed it thoroughly and enjoyed the sauce that came with with the fries which I'm still eating right now cross country. As the mule continued I had a chance to converse with very nice people the bar and found the bathroom to be spectacular. Cloth towels dry my hands a really nice layout and setup of the establishment. A two-story Ada access, with a box like Expo station for the food where you can see the food being made and plated but, you don't have to hear it.
I had a chance to talk to staff and Personnel who are extremely knowledgeable about the restaurant and its placing in the neighborhood. It made me want to check out the neighborhood and also gave me a degree of confidence and knowledge that this is a good place and I got lucky. To dine at this really well thought-out and well-planned restaurant. It's new as well.. If you're into beer DO, check out the beer, as the way they have the taps come down is gravity based process. That's rather interesting. Although I don't drink so it's not that big of a deal for me.
I'll refrain from picking or ranking as the top of the heap. I will say if you ever are in Long Beach and you're at the airport it's worth a little bit of driving distance to come down as it's closer to the beach to go down as well. I'm following my instructions from Tony over at the cafe at the airport supporting local business is always a good thing! This is one good local business along with Nick's on 2nd, across the street to support, and also bring a date or dine...
Read moreFirst time here, totally didn't regret it! Amazing food, friendly service, clean environment.
We ordered Truffle Fries, Fish and Chips with Cocktail Sauce and Malt Vinegar Aioli Sauce, Mac and Shrooms, and Truffle and Artichoke Flatbread. For drinks, we had House Lemonade, House Lemonade with Cucumber Kale, and Mimosa. I definitely recommend trying their fries and house lemonades. It was a lot for two people to finish, so we unfortunately didn't have room for desserts. Our server, Kevin, was friendly and gave great recommendations on what to try.
The Truffle Fries are so delicious. It melts easily in your mouth, yet it still maintains the crunchiness of the outside and fluffy insides. The fish and chips arrived HOT. The fish was fresh out of the fryer and super crispy. The meat was tender and juicy, perfectly moist. It paired really well with the Cocktail Sauce and Malt Vinegar Aioli Sauce. My personal pick would be the aioli because its creaminess and slight herby tartness. As for the Mac and Shrooms, it's the creamiest bowl of macaroni I've ever eaten. Granted some of the cheese was still lumpy, the mushrooms and cream melted together well. I fished out one massive mushroom and it soaked up all the cream. I think the Truffles and Artichoke Flatbread was kind of a hit and miss. The bread had a pretty good charred taste and provided a crispy bite, though I wished that they had sea salt to garnish on top to give it that sharpness. The flavors were sweet and savory with harmonic herbs. Otherwise, amazing food. Salt and pepper is available upon request.
Drinks were great as well! Both of us opted to bring a cup of the House Lemonade with us, one original and another with Cucumber Kale. Super refreshing and fresh. The mimosa was alright, it left a slight riney taste and had a more prominent flavor of alcohol. I personally would have maybe preferred a sweeter taste, but it's up to how you like it!
Prices are fair for what we got. The eating area is clean besides some sea side flies, but you can always ask for a motorized repellent. The restrooms are clean and private, they offer hand towels for eco-friendly reusability. Restrooms are located in the back, up the stairs, and to the left. We ate in the main dining area but they also had a sidewalk, patio, terrace, and bar seating available. Menus are seasonal, so there's always something new to try. At the time of writing this review, we ate their Summer menu.
100% will come back and try their other dishes. Highly recommend trying them out or going here often. Perfect for dates or...
