Critter Squad Wildlife Defenders. — Attraction in Los Angeles

I have had arachnophobia for most of my life… It started one night when we arrived to a little fishing village in Mexico where my relatives owned a beach cottage… The cottage was vacant most of the year so when we all got there it was infested with black spiders the size of tennis balls… They were everywhere… the walls the ceilings… everywhere! The grownups killed as many as they could, but most hid… That night we went to sleep under candlelight, but I knew they were all around and would come out again as soon as we dozed off… It traumatized me and I’ve been Arachnophobic ever since… But this year I made a resolution to shed the phobia! I spent the first months of the year looking at cute videos of jumping spiders, getting educated about them, and trying to learn to interact with them… like by catching and releasing them instead of throwing shoes at the ceiling from the opposite side of the room 😀 Well today it happened… I was fortunate enough to find a place who normally goes to schools and educates kids on bugs and reptiles and other critters… A type of mobile zoo! Critter Squad let me come in and introduced me to some of their 8 legged critters… It was extremely educational and I literally felt cured the moment the Hannah started the teaching process… When it came time to hold the spider, I expected to tremble or at least have sweaty palms and a fast heart beat… It was nothing like that. What a fantastic experience with the Critter Squad! We hired them for a birthday party and all the guests had a wonderful time. Snakes were our animal of choice and the handler who brought them was great. She did a really good job managing the kids getting enough time with each snake and also giving little bits of info about each snake. The balance between education and hands on fun was perfect. Each snake was calmer and kinder than the next. So much so, that halfway through the snake interactions, guests were literally sitting or laying down on the grass snuggling with the snakes. My favorite part was that she made sure the birthday girl got to hold each newly presented snake first, which really added a touch of feeling special. The Zoo Keeper experience with Riley was SO AMAZING. She really focused on teaching our kids about the animals and their care, while really listening to our kids. She encouraged time with animals they connected with, and they left so excited to come back.

We found Critter Squad through their after school program at our school. Our kid enjoyed learning about and meeting the animals with the staff so much, both of our kids then did the Zoo Keeper for a day at their location. We've also had friends have parties with them over the years and always had fun.
