If you want to have an item held for you to pick up on the same day, be ready to read their mind and provide the information they need. I called requesting to have a DVD held for me to pick up today. Person answered expected me to read her mind and give me info she needs. No "How may I help you." or a polite request with the word "please." After a period of silence, I hear "Library card number?" like I'm supposed to read her mind requesting that number. I'll check out an obscure science book again, if it hasn't been hastily checked out before I get a second glance at it the next time I come in. Also, 2 hours isn't sufficient enough time for me to edit and re-edit my important documents on the public...
