ive learned to like and appreciate this spot. when vince is berserk to p and clawing at the truck door, we seem to be at the burbank exit of the 405 and this expanse thats low profile, mostly brush and today it looked like there had recently been a controlled fire. It was like an ashtray sort of but again it's what I need where I need it when I need it and my dog was so happy. he was a stray running around the valley with a very trim physique. I know he knows, can sense when we're in the valley. So my favorite thing is when he runs a little bit ahead of me and either he looks for me or I call him but of course in both instances I'm there and he is so happy that he has snapped out of deep dog world and I'm there and we're leaving together. So when I say, " vince, come!" he Throws his head back in my direction like a horse( rearing- up perhaps) and runs up so happy that I'm not leaving him there. So the vibe in this place allows me to sort of be a hero a little bit each time. it comes through. Every time I've been there it has been sparsely-populated. So it's probably a good place to go to think things through as opposed to socializing. You know what I'm saying? The only reason it doesn't get a four or five because it's clean and everything, it just doesn't as far as I know maybe I need to look further but it doesn't have a feature like a place with shade and beautiful trees or some kind of water feature, lake or something I'm probably going to make a fool of myself because I'm probably on the verge of Niagara Farlls or something over there but where I go is just, it's just a Big ashtray. You know I think I'm going to go ahead and go back and give it a five because parking is a cinch and I felt like totally safe and I mean it never really promised a water feature; that seems a little bit offhanded of me, unfair. so it is a 5. The pic is Vince in the Target parking lot pinching a loaf after we left this place. My pictures will get better. You have to admit though, even taking a dump, he is a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis park is less crowded than it's sibling across Woodley - since it's mostly geared toward wildlife reserve - mainly migrating birds. There are always birders around - depending on seasonal migration, more or less... some have cameras with giant lenses looking to capure rare feathered specimens. This is the only place in the Valley to observe an actual game of cricket! During the summer season there are several games going on... Yes, cricket - the British (and former colonies) baseball. I haven't figured out the rules yet - but I hear the traditional lunch break during a game consists of cucumber sandwiches. Is archery your thing? Head to the back close to the 405 and there's an archery range. There are classes and every now and then - Renaissance Fair types show up in costume... You oughta not doth showeth up as Rambo with explosive arrows and high powered crossbows... The archery range has a website with rules and a calendar, etc... One can do some hiking in the official wildlife sanctuary part... I've not gone back there in a long time as I go with my dog - and wildlife sanctuaries are s'posed to be dog free... Though I've observed both hipsters and morons walk right past the very visible No Dogs sign with their dogs - some even off leash.š All parks in Los Angeles, unless designated specifically as off-leash dog parks have a leash requirement... With this in mind - be mindful of those scofflaws who believe that grass means no leash... As with anywhere in Los Angeles, there is a likelihood that hobos - of vehicular and shopping cart type may be encounteres. Be mindful. In the end, this park is quite expansive and may provide you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is really my go-to spot for bird watching. I consider myself and amateur ornithologist and this place is great for variety and some what uncommon birds. Last time I was there I saw 2 Osprey and at least 5 Belted Kingfishers. I took saw a couple Juvinile Yellow Crowed Night Herons and put a couple pics. I have seen every type of hawk/falcon except a Paragon Falcon. There are typically not many people there. I rarely run into others when walking around. I have, and you can, kayak here. The water is not exactly clean so I would not recommend swimming. This place is great because it has a lot of water birds, tree birds, bush birds, and sky birds. It also has excellent lighting for photos and bird identification. Parking is super easy. Every time I go there I see a new bird that I did not see the time previous. If you go here with 8-10x44 binoculars you are sure to have a great time and see tons of birds with...
