The Venice Fishing Pier located in Venice, Los Angeles, California, is a different and equally captivating destination compared to its namesake in Florida. Situated in the eclectic and vibrant area of Venice Beach, this pier extends 1,310 feet into the Pacific Ocean and is a focal point for both locals and tourists seeking a variety of recreational activities.
Constructed to offer a serene escape from the bustling beachfront, the Venice Fishing Pier is renowned for its accessibility to all, requiring no fishing license for those looking to try their hand at angling. This makes it an ideal spot for both amateur and experienced fishermen who can cast their lines for local species such as surf perch, mackerel, and halibut, among others.
The architecture of the pier, with its sturdy, weather-resistant materials, ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Along its length, visitors can find benches where they can sit and soak in the panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the beach, and the horizon. The pier is also a popular spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts who come to observe the marine birds and occasionally, dolphins or sea lions playing in the waves below.
Adjacent to the pier, the Venice Beach area is famed for its bohemian spirit, street performers, and colorful murals, making it a cultural hub that offers something for everyone. There are numerous shops, cafes, and restaurants nearby, catering to a wide array of tastes and preferences.
The Venice Fishing Pier is not only a place for fishing but also a peaceful venue for strolling, sunset watching, and immersing oneself in the unique atmosphere that defines Venice Beach. Its location, stretching out into the ocean, provides a unique vantage point to witness the natural beauty of the California coast, making it a must-visit for anyone in the Los Angeles area. Whether you're there to fish, enjoy a leisurely walk, or simply to take in the views, the Venice Fishing Pier in LA offers a memorable experience that captures the essence of California's...
Read moreItâs called a fishing pier, though as a visitors guide, I just refer to it as the Venice Pier. I was curious to see how sturdy the newer pilings are, so I checked out the pier as there were high winds with rough seas. With waves pounding, I didnât feel a thing beneath my feet! Normally on good weather days, locals and visitors may be present. There would be the usual anglers seen at the rails fishing and some just sitting back while their poles are anchored down in holders. Iâm not sure if anyone was making a catch while I walked by, tho noticed lots of people strolling past, as they appeared to be checking out the views and the activity of those fishing! With all due respect, locals may not want the crowds of visitors from the famous Venice Boardwalk to head down yonder en masse. Iâd also not want to have to drive a tourbus in the very limited space available to turn around or have to park before the pier. In essence, the use of the pier and beach are a local amenity, with local beach and restaurant guests able to add the pier to their time spent here. A local lifeguard tower is situated on the pier, as theyâre looking out for the safety of swimmers and surfers. The attendant can also relay problems and call for back-up with their local fire department and the police as necessary. While the deck has recently been refinished and is fairly clean, the railing can be a bit messy. Unfortunate to have optimal ledge spots to steady the camera made unusable! Otherwise the views and the exercise is good for all! Thereâs a large prepaid parking lot available with a public restroom at the foot of the pier. Street parking may be available as per signage at...
Read moreI went to this dangerous tourist attraction with a friend. He was attacked by a crazed man who threw a heavy metal bike seat in the direction of his head. As the man attempted to throw the object a second time we ducked into the police station to report the incident.
We learned that the man had been there all day attacking passerbys. Police had chased him off earlier but he returned to his spot near the only stairs connecting the parking lot to the pier (glaring unsupervised safety concern). There was no way to leave the pier without crossing his path.
While in the police station, another couple came in. A girl carrying helping her boyfriend into the space after he had been knocked unconscious by the crazed man.
At this point the police officer asks us if we want press charges, which would require that we fly back out to CA to hold the man accountable for attacking people. The rest of their unit was apparently allocated to resolving a robbery.
The point of this review is that this place prioritizes money and property over the safety of tourists. This man had been attacking people all day, dealing serious damage... but every other available officer was assigned to...
