As employees, we appreciate feedback and reviews, as they give us some much needed points to work on. While us employees can not and do not represent our parent company officially or legally, we can try to use this review to respond to some criticisms raised in other reviews.
The PRO membership can be renewed with the points you earn throughout the year. 1,000 points is equivalent to $1 USD, and we can save you up to $25 off (psst! that's a free renewal!)
New Releases: Regarding selling many items to the first few people in line, all releases operate first-come, first-serve, and we have a hard limit on what items can be sold and how many per customer. Quite recently, we have noted that most trading card booster packs can be sold five-at-a-time per guest, per day, AND per payment method, while larger packs like Pokemon Elite Trainer Boxes and Magic: The Gathering Commander Decks can be sold one-at-a-time per guest, per day, AND per payment method. Sometimes, our shipment supply is extremely small, and unfortunately, we can't affect distribution. So, if you see someone leaving with a bag of stuff, please be understanding of the fact that they can purchase five boosters, and then one of each respective larger pack. If we only get five boosters and our limit still allows for us to sell those five to one guest, then that one guest who wants all five has the right to purchase all of them. Sometimes, we wish we could change the rules too. (And no, we can't call dibs until the business day is over.)
Non-refundable/exchangeable items: We try to make note of this for every transaction, but in case we forget, here is the policy nigh verbatum: All items marked as "New" that classify as software [video games, digital download codes] and hardware [systems, headphones, consoles, cables, internal/external storage, etc] are considered NON-REFUNDABLE, NON-RETURNABLE. We can only take these items back if their boxes have not been tampered with, damaged, or otherwise manipulated from their original packaging. As soon as the tape is removed or the box is opened, we cannot provide any further assistance unless you have purchased an accompanying warranty. If you have not opened the original packaging, we might be able to help you find a replacement within 24 hours, but that particular part of the policy is subject to change and has changed before. Trading cards, Gachapon, and other Mystery Item toys are COMPLETELY non-returnable. Action Figures can be returned if they are broken right out of the box within the day. Apparel can be returned if they haven't been worn. "Pre-owned" software and hardware are the only items in any GameStop that can be returned, refunded, and/or exchanged within 7 days of the original purchase; as soon as the eigth day comes, we cannot help you without a warranty.
While on the topic of warranties, ALL warranties are only applicable within the same transaction as the purchased item. You cannot put a warranty on an item later on, and you cannot renew a warranty when next year comes around. All warranties are also one-time uses. Once you bring us an item and intend to use that warranty for an exchange, you have used up your warranty and will be directed to purchase another one for another year or two.
We hope some of these responses help. We're not corporate affiliates, just ordinary workers...
Read moreThis is a generic review of Gamestop and not specific to the Wards Road store.
When I was younger, Gamestop employed a lot of my friends and was a cool hangout at the mall. They had collectibles, which I love, and affordable used games. Unfortunately, as I got older and my friends stopped working there, I discovered the corporate grip GS has over it's employees. They are ordered to plus and up sell certain items each month along with game guides and subscriptions that are of an ancient time. 20 years ago, a subscription to a gaming magazine made sense. 20 years ago game guides were often, but not always a necessity when trying to beat a complicated game, but we there is...the internet and the old ways are gone. Yet, they still try to push membership card and magazines on me.
I shop at GS 1 or 2 times a year now because I can't stand going in and constantly being overwhelmed with the multitude of questions and suggestions from the employees. If I was a grandmother, perhaps I would need that sort of thing when looking for a gift for one of my 12 grandchildren, but I'm not and I just want to browse.
Sadly, the price of used games has skyrocketed over the last 20+ years and made shopping there pointless. I'd much rather spend an extra $5 and get the game new. Or wait for a sale at Best Buy or Target and save...
Read moreWent in to the Gamestop on Wards today to pre-order the upcoming Star Wars game. As soon as I walked in I made eye contact with the woman with the multicolored hair and middle-aged man behind the counter. As I raised my hand to greet them they stared back at me without an ounce of welcome in their eyes. My hand dropped back to my side. I thought to myself maybe they're having a bad day; whatever, back to my browsing before my order. As I walked through the store I felt eyes on me the whole time. My discomfort grew so I left the store no longer wishing to make my purchase. As I leave another patron entered. Not two steps into the store, as she looked to the left away from the workers, she received a greeting from the middle-aged man behind the counter. I guess I wasn't worthy of a hello, head-nod, or grunt of welcome. Needless to say I won't be back and this location has lost my business forever. If the employees read this, please treat everyone the same no matter their appearance, a little bit of welcome can make all...
