Iām going to leave a review that I would have appreciated seeing before making the decision to move in. Unfortunately a lot of what ultimately affected the decision not to renew my lease had to do with factors outside of the leasing officeās control and more to do with the caliber of people that reside here. I would use the word ācommunityā very loosely (if at all) when describing the environment because calling it a community would insinuate that there is a shared level of respect amongst the residents and sadly there just isnāt.
Positive things first: Staff is friendly and very responsive to maintenance issues Proximity to major highways
Negatives: You will hear every sound your upstairs neighbor makes. If you have upstairs neighbors that are aware they live above others, consider yourself lucky. There is a reasonable expectation of noise that comes with living below someone, however, there is a significant difference between that and the level of noise you get to deal with here, which directly relates to the quality of the overwhelming majority of people that inhabit this complex. The walls legitimately shake with how loudly the stomping can get at all hours of the day and night. Neighbors that treat their balconies as areas to have conversations so loud you can clearly hear them in your living room and bedroom occur far too often as well (again, more of an issue that pertain to the PEOPLE who live here, because most decent human beings would NOT be having loud conversations at 6am on their balconies). Between constant door slamming from the hallway doors, never ending stomping above your head, to dogs barking in the dog park, there is never a moment of silence.
Amenities such as the grill area are rarely open on the weekend once the weather gets nice due to parties that take over the entire āsharedā area rendering it unusable to those that pay upwards of 3.5k a month to live here. And you get to deal with the subsequent noise from those parties too if you live in the building surrounding that area.
The package concierge system is nice in theory, when it is working.
This is not by any means a smoke free facility as it is advertised. Not only have I personally seen upstairs neighbors smoking on their balconies, but there are residents that smoke directly outside of doorways in the parking garage that you have to walk by to get to and from your apartment as well as smoking that occurs at the aforementioned parties in shared areas.
If you have a dog, be well aware and on the lookout for the residents that allow their dogs to be off a leash. More than once weāve had dogs freely run up to us as we were walking our reactive and trained dog both in the hallways and outside creating a potentially very unsafe situation.
The space allotted for visitor parking is roughly 20 spots for 350+ units and you arenāt allowed to park on the streets (not that it stops people from doing that anyway). People frequently park on the side of the two way entrance into the parking garage making that entrance extremely unsafe since they effectively turn a two way traffic situation into a one way. Or even better, people will frequently create their own parking spot in the already dangerous parking garage by parking their car next to the last car at the end of the row making an already tight turn even tighter and more blind than it already is. People also frequently use the one way entrance into the parking garage as an exit creating the potential for head on collisions with the people trying to use the one way entrance as intended.
The way the residents drive through the parking garage itself is haphazard at best, often times speeding around the tight turns and through the garage at unsafe speeds and almost always in the middle of the two way lanes that have arrows clearly indicating youāre not meant to drive in the middle.
If you made it this far, to sum it up, spend your money elsewhere if quiet and peaceful living are important factors in your search for an apartment because you will not be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been completely dissatisfied with the entire length of our lease here at The Union. We were misled when we first looked at the unit in Sept ā17. We were told we were paying for a renovated unit AND a renovated building bc carpets were being replaced in the hallways by the end of the month. That didnāt occur until Aug/Sept ā18
The manager is rarely on site. He does not respond to emails in a timely fashion (sometimes never at all).
The parking garage is a disaster. The fee to park is ridiculous. There is nothing in walking distance of the building. Management fails to do anything to stop people driving fast through the parking garage. Management sent out an email reminding people to āfollow the rulesā stating that the speed limit is 15 mph. The sign says 8. Iāve seen many people almost crash head on going about 20mph around corners.
I was screamed at my another resident and called āa princess b*ā because I back my car into my spot every time. Many residents do. You have no choice but to park that way when thereās a 50/50 chance someone is whipping around the corner, sometimes distracted by their cell phones and not looking at the road. I suggested speed bumps and more and bigger mirrors multiples times to management and nothing was ever done to fix the issue.
The amenity fee doesnāt cover the amenities. People let their dogs poop in the hallway regularly. The hallways constantly stink of marijuana. The gym is gross. The wipes are always empty and it stinks. The equipment is broken. The ellipticals specifically are hazardous and nothing gets replaced or fixed. I have brought this to managements attention on many occasions, but finally gave up once I realized nothing ever gets resolved at The Union. A $25 ātrash feeā is added to your rent for Iām not exactly sure what reason. We have looked at other Greystar properties and when we asked if there was a ātrash feeā they looked at us like we were crazy. Apparently The Union finds it necessary to charge residents $25 to walk their own garbage to the trash room and throw it in the dumpster.
Upon moving in, I suspected there was mold in the apartment. I notified management multiple times and nothing was done to resolve it. 6 months later I got lucky and met the regional manager in the front office. He looked and had maintenance fill in some gaps in the tile, but didnāt actually test for mold. 2 months later I found it under the sink and maintenance told me under our sink was completely covered in black mold. As someone with a severe allergy to mold, this posed a serious threat to my health. I was ignored on so many occasions by management and that nothing was done to fix it when it was first brought to their attention in October 2017. Now that we have been moved out for a few weeks, I can already feel the difference in my breathing and my overall well-being... simply from not living in that apartment anymore.
When my fiancƩ went down to the office during the fall of 2018 before we re-signed our lease, he was told by the assistant manager that there was NO penalty if we needed to break our lease. He was told that all that was needed was 2 months notice and those 2 months rent had to be paid in full even if we were to leave earlier. This spring we came to find out that was a lie as well.
They have instead told us that we have to pay a nearly $4,000.00 fee for breaking our lease. We broke our lease because I could not live there anymore. The apartment was making me ill. We chose to move out for that reason, in addition to me being chased down and threatened by another resident due to her inability (and managements failure to provide a safe garage) to drive safely through the garage. We have paid more than enough to live in this awful building and are now being taken advantage of because we simply cannot live like this anymore.
Do not live here unless you want to be lied to constantly, live in unhealthy conditions and have a property manager who does absolutely nothing to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and my boyfriend had to relocate to New Jersey due to his job and Itās been a month since weāve been living in this apartment building. This is my review of what I think of Sofi Lyndhurst so far. I think this place is too expensive for what you get. You get the nice stench of dog piss and dog crap when you walk in the hallways. There are people who let their dogs release themselves in hallways and donāt pick it up. It has Happened several times already near my doorway. Management has yet to do anything about it. They just have the cleaning ladies clean the areas without any investigation as to who is letting their dog do this. The parking garage is too expensive, itās an additional $300 per month for me and my boyfriend to park in the garage. Why do we have to pay for parking in a place where we live? I never understand why this is a fee I rather park in the street. Itās not really safe driving in and out of the garage. I had an instance where someone was driving reckless and almost hit me head on. So that is not worth $300 a month in my opinion. If you like brown water then this is the place for you. The water comes out brown from faucets, toilets, and washing machine. It literally ruined some of my white clothes when I first did a load of laundry. So do not drink the water or use it to cook. I have to go out and buy gallons of water for cooking and I had to get a filter jug for drinking. Another expense added to the price of luxury living. The kitchen cabinets are trash. They literally covered the cabinets with some kind of peel and stick covering to make it look expensive. I had one cabinet door that fell out of its hinges as I was putting dishes away on move in day. The fire alarms are very sensitive I donāt know if itās a good or bad thing. When I cook even if Iām just boiling water it sets them off. The vent fan doesnāt seem to work that well and i have to open my kitchen windows and the Porch door every time I cook and that to me is very inconvenient. My biggest pet peeve is that the walls are too thin. I can clearly hear my neighbors conversations from all sides of my apartment. I can hear them Upstairs, I can hear them from accross the way and right next door to us. Itās not fun when youāre trying to have a relaxing night in and all you hear is your neighbors life story. The location is not great. Itās located in a more industrial area and there is constant construction being dine right next to this building. So itās not a good place to live if you have to work nights and have to sleep during the day.
The apartment itself is ok. I do like the space but there is much needed improvement and the price tag for this apartment is outrageous for the lack of desirable amenities, the lack of sanitation and cleanliness, less than ideal location, low quality material in the apartment with signs of wear and tear, the price to park in the apartment garage and inadequate privacy, I donāt think the place is worth over 3k a month for a two bedroom apartment.
There is one positive I have to point out. The maintenance team is fantastic. They are quick with response and solving any issues within...
