Had a chance to visit the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc today along with the USS Cobia which is part of the museum what a learning experience. After checking in at the front desk and getting my receipt for my online ticket purchase which is basically your pass it was right into the exhibits and from the shipbuilding history of the area to the history of shipping on Lake Michigan to the exploration of shipwrecks and the displays of artifacts from some of the famous and infamous shipwrecks the museum really shows you the history of it all. I'm giving you just a brief glimpse of what there is to see and enjoy at the museum there's more than i could possibly list here you will have to come and see it for yourself to really get the full breadth of it. The exhibits and videos in the museum about the USS Cobia and than the tour of the boat itself which you can do with a guide or as I did just walking through the boat from bow to stern just imagining what it must have been like to be on board during WW2. The boat is beautifully maintained and everybody who is responsible for that should be proud and thanked for keeping it that way. Everyone working at the museum that i came in contact with were very friendly and helpful it was a great afternoon. Thanks! A bonus picture at the end of my tour of the Wisconsin to Michigan ferry boat SS Badger had just...
Read moreSo disappointed with this place. I checked the reviews to see if this happened to anyone else and it doesn't look like it. I may email them as well. So we drove out of our way today to stop. We could have just drove home which would been a shorter drive but hubs told our boys about the submarine (6 and 3) and they were excited to go. We walked in at 12:03, was told that the 12 tour was full and next was at 1:00. We decided to try and get lunch and come back. Which ended up stressful trying find a place and get back in time. I didn't get to eat much do to issues with kids, bathroom meltdowns. But we did it walked in at 12:50 and said we were ready. There was now a new person who let me know that great we had time to walk around yet. What? Wait? 😲Next tour was at 1:30. I let him know we were told 1:00. He let me know that tours are based on # people. I let him know we were verbally told there was a tour at 1:00. He let me know that we would be the only people and that was not enough for a tour😠 I'm upset. Kids are upset. My review would not even be 1 star. This is terrible consumer service. We now have another 3 hour drive before we're home. Now I will say hubs was the one that "checked out" Web page. I didn't know there was paid tours and i should have done my research. This was a spare of the moment idea on hubs. I'll update my review if we ever do...
Read moreLol wisconsin built submarines.. I play a game where I sink Japanese ships with Gato class submarines.. would never have guessed they were built in cheese country then floated down the lake which is where I just found out today about this, then taken all the way down the Mississippi and then I assume through the Panama canal to get to the pacific.. the ingenuity of these crafts for the time is astounding.. the lost arts of plumbing.. and then the amount of miles they went on the amount of fuel they had, across the pacific.. into Japanese harbors.. I've synthesized these experiences and to me they are very real.. the thrill of encountering and sinking enemy shipping.. dodging endless aerial assaults.. I also slept on one of these as a young boy scout.. props to the men who did all of this in real time where otherwise weeks and months can be skipped forward in simulation...
