City Workshop Men's Supply Co. — Attraction in Maplewood

Located in the idyllic Maplewood Village, City Workshop is a gem that I recently came across while finding a place to get my new Naked and Famous Japanese denim hemmed by professionals in the genre. City Workshop has exceeded my expectations in many ways.

The co-owner, Roger, was very accommodating and greets you on the way in, wearing his own amazing personal style, guiding you, and asking the right questions. The seamstress N’namdi was very skilled, nice, and helpful. N’namdi’s hemming was prompt, at an unbeatable price, and the workmanship was beautifully done, with a classic chainstitch using a Union Special, despite my overly thick Japanese denim.

As for the store itself, you can expect to see a beautiful bespoke collection of local (NYC Brands) and import (Japanese Brands) clothing items, bags, and footwear. This is the type of specialized place that you might find in Soho, but right in our home state of NJ, without the need to take a $25 commute into the city. The prices are what you’d expect from the unmatched quality of each clothing article, made to last a lifetime. I had to hold myself back to NOT buy anything, but needless to say, I will be back! Wanted a new pair of denim and found City Workshop was about an hour from me. Went there with my reluctant wife who did not share my same passion for sick fades. I was met with Ian and Sam who were super friendly, knowledgeable and patient. These guys were like an unstoppable tag team, working together through all the phases of the purchase. I tried on a bunch of pairs, all the while them spitting their knowledge of selvedge, rises, top blocks, fades, designs, denim materials blah blah. They knew their stock and they knew exactly what I was after. Sam helped me out with the hem service and measured me up PERFECTLY to accommodate the kind of cuff I typically use.

Went in on a Friday, had the denim hemmed and shipped to my home and received by Tuesday. I will absolutely be back to check out more of what the store has to offer.

I want to start off with how cool this place is. Being a local in the area and knowing that this place exist is truly a gem. I feel very lucky that there is a place in town I can shop so close to me with quality goods. The staff inside the shop are truly one of a kind with all of the knowledge in the world describing each and every piece inside the shop with detail. Every ounce of the shop and square footage truly has the best products available inside this very space. If you’re looking for a place that carries the best, high quality, one of the kind pieces in the selections of denim, to sweatshirts, sneakers and boots, hats, Books and many more other products, this is your place. This was my first time shopping here, and I truly believe this will be the place I will shop on from here on out.
