Bob the owner was very nice and helpful when we visited his store. We wanted to do an eco tour but was told they weren't doing them at that time. The reason give was because of erosion and limited parking. We saw another company dropping off there the next day. Anyways we chose to do the other tour that was offered instead. We arrived early and waited for the rest of the group (7 in ours/4 in the other). We were then told by the two guides that the another group of 12-15 ppl would be traveling with us. WAY to many boats at one time. We were told this was done for safety purposes because the wind was so strong. The tour was ok at best. With so many kayaks the one guide mead was very nice and knew alot about the area, but you couldn't always stay close to him because of the number of boats. The other guide was very nice ,but provided very little info on anything. I also wouldn't recommend it the wind is above 10 mph on the island tour. It made it very hard to paddle back across the cut. I know they can't control the weather so not holding that against them. All in all I would visit Bob and the team again IF we could go to the mangroves, and the group size was reduced...
Read moreWe took a boot island Eco-tour last week and it was the highlight of our visit to the keys. Daniel was our tour guide and he was excellent. We ended up seeing a group of 4 manatee, fish of all sorts, jelly fish, a nurse shark, several stingrays, mangrove crabs, etc. Really a fantastic trip for seeing wildlife.
Daniel was great, he was able to answer any questions we had and he shared a lot of great information. I also appreciated the fact that he wasn't overly chatty like you sometimes get with tour guides. I think he realizes that the beautiful surroundings speak for themselves and sometimes its great to just experience the area you are in.
We took this tour on the Tuesday between Christmas and New Years Day. This is arguably the busiest time of year in the Marathon area. Our tour started a little late that morning. This was simply due to the fact that there was so much traffic. Once we got out and off the beaten path we were all alone with our group.
I would do this again in a heartbeat. Key Kayaks was great to work with and Daniel was a true...
Read moreMy family and I were looking for a nature kayaking tour where we would see lots of local wildlife. This more than fit the bill! We went to the shop to book the tour and were introduced to our tour guide, Caroline. She gave us directions to the beach we would leave from, and told us she would meet us there with the boats. Once we were on the beach, Caroline set up the kayaks, seats, and paddles for us, and got us set with life jackets. We didn't have to do a thing!
The water was absolutely gorgeous. We paddled across a bay to Boot Key, which is covered in protected mangroves. Caroline led us through some small passages through the mangroves, where we saw tons of wildlife. She pointed out tiny crabs, sea squirts, cormorants, ibises, tons of fish, oysters, herons, pelicans, lots of other birds... Caroline also told us all about how the mangroves grow and form these islands. She's so knowledgeable!
This kayak trip was beyond beautiful and let us see some of the natural beauty of the keys. Thanks for a great...
