I will say that it is a nice museum. However, I had emailed them about an appointment at their research library. They emailed me back, I replied with my chosen time slot, and they never replied saying to come in or if that time slot was taken. So on the day of my appointment i went in and luckily i was actually able to get into the library. Now, my quest was to find information on my house. They “did the research for me.” And came up with the year built and 1 previous owner. Now, I was thinking I’d be let in to go through old census records etc myself. Nope. So with the information presented I was disappointed. I then asked if they could look up a building right across the street from my house as i know it’s also a very old building hoping there could’ve been some old picture of it with my house in it. They told me that the building by my house definitely wasn’t old. So i gave up and left. I have since been to the Negaunee Historical Society and have been helped immensely. They allowed me to look through old polk directories, and they even sat there with me and looked through some to help me out. And you’ll never guess what i found! The building that i was told wasn’t that old, was A SCHOOL IN 1896!!! That’s pretty old… With that being said, again, nice museum but not...

We are history buffs and this is a top museum! Some amazing curation and a fresh and interesting approach. We actually went back because it took a lot more time than we thought a little town museum would require. Can't say enough good things about how well they covered ancient history of the first inhabitants to the inventions that came from Marquette in the last century. There were four of us, ranging from 30-70, and we all were super impressed and checked out every portion of the museum. We liked the late hours on Wednesday, the cute gift shop and they had a live speaker showing slides on flat screen TV's and signing books when we left for dinner reservations --or we would have...

For the price, this is a very nicely set up museum. There's an obviously heavy focus on Marquette itself, but also a fair amount toward the overall UP history of indigenous people and even a bit of prehistoric land formation. It's cool to see the local pieces of history like items from ship wrecks, sports memorabilia, and local yearbooks (some vintage yearbooks are for sale in the gift shop).

I did not visit, but there's a research library on site. Currently, it requires an appointment for use, but it adds an academic air to the museum. Currently, a special exhibit focuses on the recreation history of the area: diving, skiing, biking, running, etc. It's another neat touch to learn...

Reflector Candle Holder 🕯️🪞 During the 1800s, reflector candle holders were a common feature in many homes. They had a basic design which held a candle in front of a mirror panel, helping to reflect and expand the light. They were then hung on walls in order to better illuminate rooms. Before the modern era, candles were homemade or bought and were quite a valuable commodity as they were one of the few sources of light. Using a candle reflector holder ensured that the candle would give off as much light as possible. #history #historytiktok #1800s #antiques #oldhomes

Native American art 🎨🪶 The Anishinaabe are the indigenous people of the Great Lakes region and comprise of three main tribes: the Ojibwe (Chippewa), the Odawa (Ottawa), and the Potawatomi. As a people they are skilled in making unique and beautiful art from a variety of materials. In this video you can see their use of porcupine quills, moose hair, beadwork, and shells. They also wear impressive and detailed dancing regalia. I found this collection of mainly Ojibwe artifacts and thought it was a good opportunity to showcase indigenous artistry! Enjoy! #TikTokLearningCampaign #USHistory #nativetiktok #historytiktok #anthropology
