Overall, for lunch, I enjoyed the restaurant. I ordered their lunch special Hameroo sandwich (ingredients in one of my photos here). I liked the sandwich and it was packed with flavor. The Donckers mac & cheese side wasn't bad, but I was hoping for an equally punchy flavor as the sandwich. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed the m&c, but it wasn't the stand out I was expecting.
It was packed for the lunch time and, as a first timer, I was at a bit of a loss. There are menus near the door. When a register is free, you place your order and, if staying in, are given a numbered rock to sit on a table until your food is delivered. Seating was limited, but it was a busy time of day when I arrived. The staff were very nice and helpful despite the rush.
Downstairs (ground level) is a candy shop with a nice selection of fine looking chocolates. They're a bit expensive, but the coconut haystack I had was very tasty. It's kind of nice to get candy in the UP that isn't another generic fudge chain of stores, so I don't mind an upcharge if it's truly a small-batch shop.
I'd be interested to try some of their creative-sounding breakfast meals. I'd enjoy it more at a less busy time, I think, but I'm willing to give Donckers another try next time I'm in the area. If you want to try a unique sandwich and don't mind a bit higher cost, give...

1ļøā£ candy shop NEVER disappoints. Chocolate rocks were a favorite when the kids were young. There is something for everyone AND you can buy just oneāif you canāt make a bigger commitment. 2ļøā£ ice cream! A variety of flavors AND you can build your own sundae. I love a classic banana split, but here I can totally customize the experience. 3ļøā£ the restaurant, which is more like a diner. Chips, no fries. A pickle on every plate. The service was good. One person took our order, another person brought it to the table, another gave us the check.
I had the Ruebenāthey were out of 1000 islandāI made due but it wasnāt the same. The pre-portioned meat did not remotely go to the edges of the bread. With the heap of bread in the middleāthe bread was only grilled in the centerāthe meatless outer section had melted Swiss and remnants of coleslaw. I probably should have gone with my second choiceāthe BLT.
The spicy mac and cheese was good.
We did not get refills on waterāprobably because of the rotating table service.
It is family friendly, great views from almost any table, they have some tables outside. It is a Marquette landmark and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās my first time to Michigan and me and my family were looking for something to eat and randomly picked this place. Great pick btw, food is great, family friendly, and itās nice you have a candy and dessert shop below. So I had the Chicken Noodle Soup because I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and I wasnāt sure I was going to like it. I have had multiple ChickenNoodle soups before and they all tasted yucky. This was the BEST.SOUP.EVER. Tasted so great. If you donāt like the store bought CN soup, this taste NOTHING like it at all. Itās got flavor, GREAT chicken and noodles and the soup by itself is just šš§āš³. I LOVE THIS SOUP!
Our waitress was extremely sweet as well. We didnāt get her name but sheās very sweet and I love her as a person. Sheās great at her job and serving people. Very wonderful!
The place around us was great! It was peaceful and smelled great inside. It was only us up there so it was nice to talk without others around.
Overall - I give this place 10/10. Wonderful and I pray it never gets taken down, Thank you, for this wonderful...
