Not what it used to be, but we made the best of it. My wife and I booked this for our wedding night 17 years ago which was newly renovated at that time. We had an amazing night both times we stayed. 17 years later I'm going to review it again. It's not what it used to be...
It has since, slowly been on the downward slide. Still a decent hotel because of the location, however at a disappointing cost, I understand costs are going up, but this was outrageous, and for what? There weren't much for amenities, cost was outrageous, decor was confused (for instance our room had a water color painting of the lakeshore and a picture of a cooler of beer next to each other, I'm all about both, but it was so off and random)…?
We went up to the top floor for a drink, a night camp, but unfortunately there's no view at night. However for some reason it's only open at night?! I could see if you were looking at the city lights but you're looking over a dark lake?! A breakfast nook on the upper floor would make so much more sense.
They offer coffee during the day in their lobby which is the same coffee they offer in the morning only difference is you have to pay for it in the morning. They also turn the water dispensers around until check in time 3pm so you can't get water until after check in? It's water... It's the largest fresh water lake in the world.... Why can't we drink the water!? It's just laziness. I bet a super 8 would give you free water!
One of the biggest frustrations and disappointments I saw while there, was when a server, or bar tender asked to make some change at the front desk and within second's of walking away was being ridiculed behind her back to another staff member, while there were customers in the lobby. Unacceptable, and a understandable reason as to why this place has lost it's character.
The rooms were clean. The bathroom has no fan, and they didn't even offer 2 soaps so we had one soap for both shower and washing hands.
Lucky there was a free concert across the street at the library that was good, and a bar to have a night cap down the road.
We were able to relive the memories that counted and kept the fire burning but unfortunately the nostalgia wasn't there.
PS. The picture was from the fire escape stairs, because that was the only...

Made prepaid reservations over the phone for this hotel 2 months in advance for the king lake view room with fireplace (the picture on the website shows a clear view straight out to the lake from the bed.) The registrar on the phone stated she was putting a note in my reservation to make sure we got exactly that room. Arrived at check in and attendant checking us in confirmed king lakeview room and give us our keywords. We went upto find a queen without lake view and no fireplace. Back at the desk, I was told there were no there rooms despite my complaint that I paid for a specific room and was reassured I'd get it at time of reservation. He said that room had been booked the night before our arrival. Never mind my booking 2 mo in advance. The attendant said this is a problem every weekend. I asked for a significant discount and was then offered a suite with "soaking tub" and lakeview. We accepted and arrived to see a room that has little view of lake due to lower floor and mostly seen only if you look to the side while close to the window. You definitely cannot wake up two views of the lake as we would with our original booking. The "soaking tub" is a regular tub. The one bathroom had gross grey black growth/buildup along most of the countertop to backsplash joint. The phone was coated with dust and the blinds in our room were malfunctioning. The heater was set at 62 so we had to run the heat to warm up but it sounded like a plastic bag was stuck inside and getting blown about in the heater all night. I appreciate the gesture, although only offered because I stood my ground (which i shouldnt have had to do since they immediately knew i had a different room when i checked in.) I feel like I was mislead twice. There was only one piece of artwork in the bedroom and it was a large portrait of a priest/bishop. Wierd choice guys. Will not come again. We booked a few years ago and had...
Read moreOverall, a nice hotel experience in Marquette and would have loved to give it a better rating. The lobby and common areas have been beautifully restored with obvious attention to detail. Staff were friendly and helpful and it was great to have food/cocktail options on the property. The location was also convenient to explore the rest of Marquette from. However, our guest room wasn't up to the same standard as the rest of the property, which was a huge let down because we were so excited to stay here. The website (and price) led me to believe that guest rooms were upscale and comfortable, which wasn't totally the case. The Landmark Inn guest rooms (ours, at least) were clearly going through a remodel, which we weren't made aware of at all, until I asked someone at the front desk who confirmed they were.
The bad: Superficial issues: Small (but very noticeable) holes in the ceiling and around windows where curtains used to be, tons of ripped wallpaper on the corners and surrounding doors, mismatched lamps (not in a fun, eclectic way), only one non-desk chair (which was dirty and covered in cat (?) hair), LOUD A/C unit that made it hard to sleep, and furniture that didn't seem to fit the character of the space at all.
More important issues: No fridge (a huge issue for us as we were on a road trip and wanted to keep certain foods cold), no space to unpack aside from a collapsable suitcase holder (any kind of dresser would have been very convenient) so we had to live out of our suitcases for 2ish days, and doors/walls are THIN so we very clearly heard all the hallway traffic.
The good: The bathroom was great. Excellent lighting, plenty of counter space.
The shabbiness was mostly disappointing because we were celebrating an anniversary. All this being said, I would stay there again if upgrades are made to the guest rooms. Yes, the room was disappointing but the overall...
