We were on a trip to Copper Harbor. Decided to stop in Marquette for the night. We like to go to the Casino so I picked this hotel because the Casino website suggested it. If you want to go places downtown Marquette, the location is pretty good. The hotel setup is odd. It's in two buildings, maybe we were in the older non updated portion, not sure. The hallways were drab, we got into the room and it felt a little better. There was some slightly updated furniture, but it didn't seem to flow together, is there a Hotel supply thrift store maybe? As I continued my investigation of the room's "amenities"I opened the cabinet that held the microwave and fridge and it just stinks. Smelled like someone ran a marathon in 90 degree heat and put their socks in and closed it up for a week. The bed was quite low to the ground, not the end of the world, but the night stands were higher then the bed so every time that I reached over I would smack my arm on the ledge of the stand. I guess I should be more aware of my surroundings? The carpet felt "thick" that's the best way I can describe it. It was damp, and you could feel the stickiness of the years past embedded in it's once lush fibers. Ok I can get past some of this, but it just keeps going. The shower had very little water pressure and did not keep a steady temperature. When I got in the shower I noticed several curly hairs around the top of the tub. Neither my husband or I have curly hair, ick. While attempting to shower, I realized that I didn't have shampoo. What I did have is one full conditioner and one half full conditioner. I poked out of the shower to make sure that I didn't have any shampoo. Nope. After getting out of the shower I took a towel to wipe up the excess water that I got on the floor during the great shampoo search. We didn't wear shoes in the bathroom nor were we in the bathroom that many times. We arrived to the hotel at around 6pm and left about an hour after that, returning after 2am. So we barely used the room. The towel was so gross after wiping the floor! Afraid to use the refrigerator to keep your beverages cold? Well, I would not recommend the ice maker in the hallway. it was really cool looking, straight out of the 70s. Unfortunately there was mold on the outside of the machine, I'd hate to see what sort of hairy monster is on the inside. The place needs updating, it was not clean, and we paid way too much for a night in what might be a giant petri dish. My husband and I are pretty "no frills" people and actually enjoy the adventures of stopping at unfamiliar locations that might be a little quirky. This hotel did not hold the enduring qualities of a place that has remained a host to some of the relics of the past. My husband actually woke up screaming in the middle of the night, probably one of the many scary things lurking in the dark in this place, we might as well add haunted to the list of less than charming attributes that this hotel holds. Grateful that we were only here for a night.... beware of what lurks in the corners around there. The staff was friendly and yes I could have gotten shampoo, but I would have had to take a quick trip to the other building to get it...and I really just wanted to get the hell...
Read moreI stayed four nights with my two daughters and had mixed feelings. It is centrally located in downtown Marquette and that is the best thing this hotel has going for it.
First unload into my king suite: The room was tidy however, I did find a live tick by the microwave, crushed it, brought it to the receptionist and told her my room number so it could be noted in my stay. I recognize it is the upper peninsula and this year has been especially bad for ticks so this really didn’t surprise me, but it was off putting nonetheless.
The hotel does not have automatic doors in their entrance. This was very disappointing as I was an adult alone with two small children and needed to ferry belongings on each trip. My five year old was put to work to help me, only guests helped with holding doors. There are simply not enough staff at the hotel.
My television was messed up in that someone prior changed the input and it could not be consistently switched back to cable for us to watch. With three requests to fix or exchange the television, I gave up and we just watched what we needed on the I pad.
They do not offer daily check in with cleaning staff. I could have requested things, but just didn’t have such a need besides trash which I got my own bags to handle.
The fridge was set on such a setting that it froze my leftovers and milk I had planned to feed the kids the next day. Sure, I could have checked before hand but it is never easy to tell what each mini fridge will crank out on any setting.
Slabz the restaurant is gross, the food was overpriced and the staff took forever to even talk to me. I called to order a carry out and they acted like I was nuts. They do not have a breakfast included, that restaurant serves a breakfast but I am glad I never scheduled myself to need to use it.
It just seems like the staff is really young or inexperienced with hospitality business. I am no ritzy customer but I felt like they were not well trained on communication or with service industry management.
The elevator: my goodness, so old and somewhat scary. The least they could do is slap some wall paper on the scary industrial panels so it didn’t look like we could be transported to the boiler room instead of the hotel room.
People were still smoking right outside the hotel entrance, which with rain just pushed it inside. Guess they didn’t see the laminated “no smoking within 30 feet of the building” sign that was on the ground since the tape failed.
My daughter liked the pool and hot tub, those were clean and fun.
I am grateful for the room as I needed a suite with my kids sleeping set up, but wish other aspects of the accommodations just came easier. The hotel needs some updates but was overall clean. Their housekeepers were visibly tired, probably not enough of them.
No one was rude or anything, just not quite running a hotel with the hopes that their guests will want...
Read moreWe chose this hotel months ago for its proximity to the UP200 starting line. We knew we'd be arriving close to the start, and needed a spot to change and get outside quickly. How disappointing to find out they do not police their lot for guests only (during big events like the UP200, the Hampton does). When we arrived, every spot was full - and many places along the edges that were not actual spots. We ended up parking over a mile away, changed in the freezing cold right outside on the sidewalk, and ran to the start, missing the big send off entirely. Very disappointing. Once the festivities were over and we headed back to the hotel, we discovered we were in an old building not connected to the hotel with the pool and restaurant. If we wanted to use the pool, we had to pull on the winter boots and coats and try to squeeze behind a big Gordon's Foods trailer, inching along the main building wall to the small door hidden behind the trailer to get in the main building. That trailer ran by a generator that went on and off all night long. The sheets were clean, but smelled like that favorite old t-shirt that is super worn and will never have that "clean" smell again. My husband slept on the couch because the bed hurt his back. Our room was a suite with a TV in each room, but they shared one remote control. Not too convenient when both tv's are in use. We were on the first floor and had our shades down the entire weekend, as there were parked cars maybe two feet from our windows, along with the Gordon's trailer that had people going in and out all day. Normally I try to find the positives in our stay, but for this Ramada there just weren't any. Even the emails they send to "E" check in and check out did not work - which you don't find out until you get to the very end of the process and hit "submit." At $688 for two nights? Not at all worth it. Especially when the only reason we were willing to pay that price was for a convenience we didn't get. We may as well have stayed a few miles out and saved $400, since we had no place to...
