I'd categorize this place as a true "local's beach." Not to say that tourists aren't welcome, but overall there are nicer beaches than here, and ones that aren't located next to a sewage plant lol. It's fine during the day, but as soon as the sun sets, I'd get the hell out of Dodge...
PARKING: Parking is close in proximity to the grassy park and beach, and plentiful on any given day, but if the surf is up, forget it.
THE PARK & FACILITIES: There are lots of grassy areas with shade to spread out and be comfortable. Camping is allowed though with permits. All the usual facilities are here like showers, picnic tables, grills, and even sand volleyball courts. Overall noise is loud due to being located next to OGG. A lifeguard is on duty.
THE BEACH: Being that it's on the north side of Maui, conditions are suitable for windsurfing. There are shallow reefs but you don't want to be snorkeling in an area with high ocean traffic and choppy water. The sand is white and soft, and goes on for miles east towards Sprecklesville. The views of the West Maui Mountains and north side of Maui can't be beat.
TIP: There is a homeless situation in this area so be careful even during daylight. The place turns super shady at night. A murder in the area years ago only validates that statement.
OVERALL: Daytime yes,...
Read moreVisited this park when l took a cruise to Hawaii recently. This beach park is 3 miles from the Kahuli cruise terminal in Maui, Hawaii. If you are on a budget and can't afford a $100 cab to Kihei beaches 20 miles away, a $10 Uber will take you to the KANAHA Beach Park. There are lots of trees to provide shade as you spend the day there. It is a beautiful, clean park with restrooms and outside shower to rinse off . You cannot purchase food or anything else there. but you can bring your own food in..There are a few picnic tables around too. To catch Uber from ship, you have to walk about 5 minutes to the Maui Mall, You can buy your food at this mall first, then take an Uber to the Park. The best part about this beach, is that it is very quiet. Not many people shared it with us so it seemed very private and unknown to ship cruisers. It is a free beach park, and although we went there during the October fall break for schools, we expected to see a lot of local families, but saw almost none!! Day was a sunny 84 and so was the sea temperature. Saw a few wind surfers and water boarders out in the sea. Ubers from and to the ship were very...
Read moreA pleasant secluded park right next to the airport. When I first saw it on Maps, I thought cool, maybe I can walk there. No. It is next to the cargo terminals of the airport and separated by woods.
It took about a little under five minutes by cat to get there. Once you get there it is very nice. I visited there around at nine on a Thursday, so it was quiet with very few visitors ( saw five persons total) and saw some parasailing in the distances.
The distance from the parking lot (medium sized) to the beach itself is about 40-50 yds. You will have to cross some uneven terrain, but there are some atv paths you can follow if the soil isn't too muddy.
Surf is very nice and to the left you get a nice view of a valley see XD. Sand is ok with average fineness, with some wood detritus and seaweed strewn about. The smell was not bad, as there is a constant breeze present. Water was clear with some turbidity expected from the shore.
Restrooms are across the parking lot and are not the cleanest, but they are useable.
You will see wild cats...
