Wow! This was so much more than anything that I could have begun to imagine! Whatever your preconceptions might be, get ready to be incredibly, well, 'Amuse'-d. Though it should've been named "Amaze" as we found it so much more than just amusing! We bit the bullet after reading several reviews. The cost was a bit higher than most excursions we tend to typically do as we have a large family.
There are many games, and each requires different levels of brainpower, skill, or althleticism. Our group had 6 people ages 57, 50, 31, 25, 18, and 17. All games were playable by our entire team. You can choose to be just an "observer" instead of a "player" if you think a room might be too difficult for you to handle physically or mentally. This let's you enter the room with your team but doesn't make you accountable for their success or failure. In fact, a few times we had someone enter as an "observer," but they turned out to be vital asset in our success! That said, some of the more physical rooms require all participants to be either statuesque or play a real-life game of "the floor is lava." This meant that even if an observer wanted to see around a corner, they couldn't walk across the floor without accidentally failing their group. Each game took up to 5 minutes or so to complete. And most likely, you will walk in and fail a game miserably within the first 15 seconds, but that's also a part of the fun. After you fail, you have a better (or at least less confused idea) about what the game requires and how to beat it. When you enevitably make a mistake only to be greeted with a 'game over', run back to the entrance, scan into it again, then get ready to have a bit more opportunity and knowledge under your belt to use to your advantage and beat it! We went with the 4-hour pass. I think the 2-hour is doable too, though we didn't even realize how time flew while we were busy playing. The 1-hour pass would have been too limiting. There's so much to do that you wouldn't be able to fully experience everything to its fullest in a single hour. Many of the games have more than one level and increase in difficulty as you get better. So in an hour, sure, you can play all the games, and maybe find a favorite or two. But, it might feel a bit rushed, and you will be out of time before you know it! They have complimentary lockers only accessible by your personal wristband, which you can use to secure your belongings. Bring a water bottle as you WILL sweat when you find out that exercise can be fun without you even realizing it. There is a water fountain, so don't panic too much. And be sure to wear comfortable clothes you can easily move around in. You will be jumping, swinging, climbing, crawling, thinking, and scrambling as you make your way through various challenges. One game in particular singlehandedly robbed our group of a pair of glasses, a hat, a smart watch, and our dignity. Though it was all right within easy grabbing range, the only thing wrecked was the watch as it had been snapped by my impulsiveness and competitive nature. Though, those giant rubber bands showed no mercy! As a family place, I think this Memphis attraction was absolutely out of this world! I'd say that young children might have difficulty enjoying the place and, similarly, less mobile or agile seniors. In a few rooms, you can not move a muscle. Others will keep you from touching the floor. For instance, one room puts a uniqur twist on a popular word game. When you figure out your answer... Well... Let's just say I've never seen Hangman played this literally before! The staff was phenomenal! Polite, helpful, and kind, they kept checking on us and asking us how we liked a game we were leaving, or what our favorites were so far. The facility was clean and well maintained, even with hundreds of people having tightened the same "Zargnut" and having "flipped" or "flopped" the astral plane before us. Everything still worked flawlessly and as expected.
I can't wait to make this place a regular stop, as now, I want to introduce others to this...
Read moreWe tried this place from a recommendation of a friend. We wanted to go on a Wednesday, my son's bday, but we couldn't make it work. So we had to settle on Saturday afternoon. First of all the parking lot is T..I..N..Y!! And it was packed out!! When you book it asks what time you want, which makes you believe that there is a cap on how many people are allowed during that time frame. It was packed out and there were people still coming in at the time we scheduled for. So it is an unlimited amount of people in there at one time. The hallway are kinda small and the doors swing out so it makes for tight spaces when trying to enter into a room. There are rooms with games inside and the instructions are vague. So it's a run for the money as soon as you get inside....Trying to figure out what to do before the timer runs out. The speakers in the rooms suck so it's hard to hear especially with the amount of people of that was there. We stuck with the physical games so that everyone could participate. And I think that worked better for our crew. They say that this place is for all ages, but we will not bring our 3yr old if we come back. We were so intuned with playing and trying to beat the clock that she did not get a chance to participate. And she whined the whole time. There were workers that smelled like weed when they walked by, which is highly inappropriate with kids around. But other than that, they were very helpful and they walked around the whole time. The kids had a blast and we will try it again, when there are less people and more time to play. We only played for an hour and for 7 people it cost us $210. Not quite sure if it was worth yet. But...
Read moreMy son and I had a great time! We had early time slots 10-12, which was PLENTY of time. My son would've stayed longer but I was spent lol Everyone on the staff was helpful and nice.
For the parents, they have free lockers, vending machines with drinks and snacks. My son is 6 so some of the rooms were more challenging for him but I think it's still great for kids 6 and up. 5 and under probably just stick with the 1 hr pass or you'll be lugging the kids around most of the time. Definitely wear some activewear/workout clothes.
We liked the physical events the most, some of our favorites were (I may be off with the names but if you ask the staff they'll help you lol) Ninja Training, All of The Lights, The Pirates Ship, Potion Mixer, Prison Run, The Cable Maze, and The Gauntlet. All of the events were fun but these were the one we went through multiple times.
We loved the challenges and the fact that if you "won", you could unlock the next level. Some of the events you could unlock up to level 5. All together we had a great time and a...
