When the store first opened all they had was a little room, what they lacked in space they made up for in content and spirit. They expanded their store and now have even more. They brought a wonderful new environment to this little city in the middle of one of the most catastrophic pandemics in history. The odds were stacked against them, but they were determined. They worked around restrictions to bring joy into a world where it felt was beginning to be lost. And now there are children and families walking in and out with big smiles on their faces.
I work at a store in town and whenever I bring up the Candy Store, I hear nothing but praise and admiration.
And the businesses around the downtown area are doing better as a result too!
The prices are great as well, if you have a lot to spend, or only a few cents to your name, you will find something for you!
And I touched on the variety earlier, but words can't describe. The only comparison I can make is the Candy Store in Jordan, MN. Although that place is huge and elaborate, this small town candy store has pretty much the same variety, and if you have requests, Barbara and crew are always open for suggestions. (Also, not having to drive 2 hours through the city traffic is a major plus)
Thank You guys for bringing joy, business, and CANDY! I look forward to spending time here for...
Read moreMy little sister asked an employee if she could use the restroom, the employee showed her the restroom, she went to use it and left her basket outside the door, but a different employee got mad about her using the restroom saying the room way employee only and she can only go in there with permission which she assumed she had gotten from a different employee. Love the candy and such there but I have never seen that employee before and she was so rude to my little sister and myself.
Edit to respond to owner: There was another person in the store, behind the ice cream counter, as we explained to you, and my little sister spoke to that person. She did not being her merchandise into the restroom, she left it outside the door. I feel like your big concerns at this point should be to 1- figure out who was behind the ice cream counter, pretending to be an employee and 2- putting a lock on the bathroom so no one can use it without having an employee open it for them. How is a kid supposed to know who is and isnt an employee? She asked someone who was behind a counter where the bathroom was and was told. Seeing someone behind a counter seems like a pretty clear indicator that theyre an employee to me. I would also take that as permission to use...
Read moreThis candy shop/ice cream shoppe is legitimately worth driving through or into town to visit. If you've ever seen Doctor Who, you will understand what I mean when I say the store is essentially a TARDIS, somehow significantly bigger on the inside.
In one room, a full ice cream counter, another room a global tour of international candies sorted out by country with excellent taste and selection, with the final room being the main room, somehow packed seemingly with an impossible amount of flavor, variety and forms of candy.
I stopped in to visit with family for the first time since they opened and both my older sister and I found candy we enjoyed in the late 80's and early 90's we thought had been discontinued. It was particularly exciting to bring home 1lb. Jawbreakers for my kids, nostalgic too.
Didn't forget the wife either, they sell candy necklaces and she got a laugh out of the "jewelry" I brought back for her. I look forward to returning with the whole family this summer and every chance after.
Highly recommended if it's just you, a date, the whole family or if you're just walking by. It truly is a place that exudes a wonderful...
