I watched a documentary on Mr. Rodgers a few years ago and was impressed with his life. Therefore, I decided to stop in Meridian, MS to visit the museum. It’s very small but adequately displays items, photos, etc that represent his life. There are rarely visitors so can spend as much time as you like. The lady who volunteers is very helpful and gives a guided tour. There are souvenirs to purchase and you can support museum by going online to donate. Entrance is free but I decided to make a donation. If you like the history then this is the museum for you! It’s a small treasure hidden in Meridian, MS.

This Museum is a treasure to the state of Mississippi! Please go and support it, donate and volunteer! The new executive director, Alana, is a go getter and gave us the best experience while here! The whole reason why we visited Meridian! Then ate at Weidmann’s and shopped! Please support this culturally important museum and visit! Well worth the time to go and see! Loved reading Jimmy Rodgers letters on display!

Fantastic memorabilia! It's definitely worth a visit. My favorite part were the letters that Jimmie wrote; they told a story. It's a lost art. The staff was very knowledgeable and allowed us to move at a pace that was convenient for us, never hesitating to answer our questions. They also were accommodating and opened their doors for a private tour.

Dear Friends,

I’ve just stumbled upon a little pocket of magic tucked away in Meridian, Mississippi—a place where the ghosts of guitars still hum and the air carries the lonesome whistle of a passing train. I’m talking about the Jimmie Rodgers Museum, a shrine to the “Father of Country Music” himself.

Now, don’t picture some dusty old building with lifeless displays. No, this place feels like stepping into a jukebox that fell in love with the Mississippi Delta. Inside, you’ll find Rodgers’ guitar— even though a replica ïżŒyou feel as if it once rang out with those yodels that could make your heart ache and dance at the same time. There are records and photographs too, each one a window into a time when music was raw, handmade, and stitched right out of the everyday struggles of life.

There’s even his original Victrola, standing there like it’s just waiting for someone to crank it back up so it can spin out another tune across the room. If you stand still long enough, you can almost hear the scratch of the needle and the faint echo of “Blue Yodel” drifting through the halls.

And outside? The trains still rumble past, just as they did in Jimmie’s songs. It’s almost too perfect, like the whole town conspired to keep his music alive in the air.

The Jimmie Rodgers Museum isn’t just about artifacts—it’s about spirit. It’s a love letter to the man who taught America how to sing its sorrows and joys with equal measure. If you ever find yourself in Meridian, you simply must go. Who knows—you might leave with a yodel in your throat and a song in your soul.

Yours in melody and...

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum. Joseph was very knowledgeable of Jimmy Rodgers and his life, friends, business, just a wealth of knowledge. My dad is 90 and my in-laws from Iowa along with my wife and I had the pleasure of his presentation by ourselves and had the opportunity to ask all the questions we wanted. He had the answers too! For such a young man to have the appreciation for the history of so many genres of music says a lot. He will be remembered for a long time to come. The museum was filled with donated items and originals of Jimmy Rodgers too. Very impressive and recommend if you come near Meridian definitely check it out. Rick Pridgen-...
