This was our first stay at the Threefoot, and overall we had an excellent experience! Our family of four (daughter 6 and son 12) stayed in a 2 queen room on the 9th floor for one night as we traveled from Dallas, TX to Sumter, SC. Overall we had an extremely enjoyable experience and will most definitely be returning!
The hotel was recently renovated and we give high praise to the design and construction teams for tastefully maintaining the charm of the golden age of travel while incorporating modern technology, amenities, and features.
The hotel is located in downtown Meridian. The area is experiencing a revitalization, so there's a mix of eclectic cultural restaurants, boutiques and outdoor spaces, along with large/small businesses, and rundown/dilapidated buildings. We were out on a Thursday night, so the crowds/traffic were light. We had no trouble getting a last minute reservation at Weidmann's, which was a short 5 min walk from the hotel. The only potential drawback to the location is parking availablility. The timing of our arrival (Thursday about 5pm) enabled us to find street parking directly across from the hotel. The hotel does offer valet parking for $15/day, and there is also a free parking garage nearby. Of course, whether any of that is an inconvenience depends on whether you're used to downtown/city environments.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout the hotel with every aspect of our stay. Several of them even made special efforts to engage with our kids in fun ways to enhance their experience, which was very much appreciated.
We had breakfast at 601 Local the morning of our departure. The service was excellent, and our order was prepared and delivered in an appropriate amount of time (not too fast, not too long). The menu options were varied enough that we all were able to order something we were excited about. Everyone enjoyed our meals and the coffee was very good. I ordered my eggs over-medium, but they came out over-easy. This was the only negative of our dining experience. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes.
We visited the Boxcar rooftop bar/lounge just to check it out. The views/atmosphere were noteworthy, but we didn't eat or drink there, so no comments on any of that. I will say the staff didn't seem to mind that we just stopped by without ordering anything. Also, it was about 5:45 or so on a Thursday, and there was plenty of seating available.
Our room was fantastic. It was very clean and tidy, the beds were soft and comfy with plenty of pillows, plenty of towels, and a great view of downtown. It was a bit small having obviously been designed for a single queen bed Having two queen beds in there was tight. This would have been quite a nuisance had our stay been multiple nights, but was easy to tolerate since we only...
Read moreI lived in Meridian from 69-78 and have visited regularly since then. That singular, tall, but deserted building was always a landmark to see and think about as I drove into town. I was pleased to hear about the renovations and decided to try it on a four-day visit.
The view of Meridian from my 10th-floor room and the Boxcar lounge was unlike any I have seen. It was so pleasing. The building itself was restored beautifully. I never walked inside until last week and was wowed. Wonderful job! It was so great to see the mini Renaissance downtown that came with it.
But, the follow-through in the business is missing. It made the trip disappointing.
During my entire stay, I never saw a hotel or restaurant manager, and, with the exception of the Boxcar, their absence showed.
Employees were often glued to their phones, smacking gum, and talking in cliques. Housekeeping carts were almost always in the hallways upstairs, and there was a lack of attention to detail in cleaning and upkeep. The wallpaper was peeling off the bathroom walls, the towel fixture hanging loosely, clearly spun around many times. The heat was always on full blast, no matter the thermostat setting, and the tiny vent made noise all night long. The bathroom vent had no switch and didn't work at all. The sink drained painfully slow, and a call to the desk to clear it was either ignored by staff to fix it or someone came and failed to fix it. There was no call to me to see if it was done, and it was no longer a problem.
The downstairs restaurant didn't have syrup on Sunday morning, so any item on the menu that required it was just not served. How do you miss buying maple syrup immediately from anywhere when you realize you used the last drop? An order of toast came without any butter or jelly. When I asked for some, it made me feel like a Karen. It took so long that the toast was cold when the icy butter finally came. Only one other couple was seated at another table at the time. Restaurants make a name with cleanliness, good service, and good food. It is no wonder why barely anyone was ever there.
I went to the Boxcar thrice, and the servers and facility were excellent every time. I don't include them in my comments in any negative way. Way to go, Boxcar!
No post-visit emails asking me to rate the hotel or give feedback despite four nights at almost $200 a night. Even Motel 6 does that.
It isn't the employees that are the problem; it is the management. You have a real jewel there. I hope you hire the leadership needed to enforce standards and...

🏨 Easy Arrival & First Impressions: Finding the Threefoot Hotel was a breeze — it’s in the heart of downtown Meridian and easy to spot with its beautiful historic architecture. From the moment we pulled up, we were impressed. A friendly valet greeted us right at the car with a luggage cart, helped us unload, and kindly explained how to access the parking garage. It made check-in completely stress-free after a long drive.
🛎️ Above-and-Beyond Service: Special shoutout to Mary, the bellhop who truly set the tone for the arrival. She helped us get settled, but what stood out most was how she treated every guest in the lobby with the same warmth and helpfulness. Whether you were waiting for the elevator or just wandering in, Mary was there with a smile and directions — especially for guests heading up to the rooftop bar! She even helped put my daughter in the bed as she was cold while we were moving our bags around.
🛏️ Deluxe King Room + City Views: We stayed in a Deluxe King Room and the view from our window was very nice — a sweeping look at downtown Meridian, especially beautiful at night with the stars and lights. The room was spotless and spacious, with a modern yet cozy design. The only miss was a leftover takeout box someone forgot to remove from the fridge, but everything else was sparkling clean and well-kept.
🍔 Late Night Eats: After settling in, we ordered from the hotel Boxcar Bar/restaurant for a late-night dinner and it sufficed. Wasn’t anything to write home about though! We ordered the beef and chicken trio sliders with fries — unfortunately our trio beef sliders ended up being a toaster sandwich cut in half… Neither option had lettuce/ came as advertised on the menu. This was a little disappointing.

Final Thoughts: From the top-tier bellhop/vallet service to the comfort and charm of the room, The Threefoot Hotel delivers Southern hospitality with style. It’s a perfect blend of history and modern convenience, and the hotel staff truly goes above and beyond. The front desk staff also deserves praise for how quickly they helped us check in and how informative they were, even sharing breakfast details for the next morning without us having to ask. We’ll...
