Where to start 🤦♂️. I Recently moved to this area, and I know it is hard for many malls in America to keep the doors open. I visited Merritt mall, and WOW couldn't believe this place is still open, BUT I am glad. It's the nearest indoor mall in the area.
Review: This mall is relatively clean with many close or empty retail spots. Kiosks are spread out and room for more. The descent stores are shoes places and a Mexican restaurant. Still has very few clothing stores, Dillard's, and Macy's. I have no idea what JCPenney is doing open and Sears location not being used. Movie theater is opened.
Advice: I know with a low population in the region and older, along with competition being close by, it can be hard for a place like this to survive. I've been to many older & similar Malls and they invested in getting retailers in, and I know this place has potential. They have to get the ball rolling with incentives for business to come. Especially with many people moving to the area. This mall either figures it out or close it's doors. My advice, bring young people with events, play areas for kids, restaurants, arcades, family friendly chains, etc. A reason for people to come visit. Also last thing, needs minor renovations and good security guards.
Conclusion: Owners are listening, money is hard to come by, and survival is not easy, but y'all have something here. Sorry for the long review. Best of luck. 👍

Read moreEdit: 08/17/22 A/C in the mall is not working well. The east wing felt like it was 80+ and the west wing maybe 78.
Edit: 10/14/21 Sears is now out of business, no surprise. The food court only has Chick-fil-A, Sabarro and a really rough looking chinese-ish place. The Ruby Tuesday went under and so did FYE. If you go here on a week day there are more employees in the mall than customers. Very sad. Oh and the last time I was there (late Sep 21) the A/C wasn't working well because it felt like it was about 80°.
This is the BEST mall in Merritt Island! Nevermind that it's the ONLY mall in Merritt Island. It's got big stores, medium stores and large stores. It's got a movie theater with stadium seating and it has a food court with a Chick-fil-A. It's never busy so it's always easy to find parking. All of the stores stay open until the mall closes...EXCEPT for Sears! Apparently their new business plan to avoid bankruptcy is to save money by closing 1hr earlier then all the other stores in the mall! Good luck with that. Sears is the red-headed step child...
Read moreI really like the Merit Square mall. It is a large, clean single level shopping mall. It contains a food court, large department stores, upscale department stores, snack shops, shoe stores, specialty shops, boutiques, a large movie theater, and those little oddball speciality shops that are only found in shopping malls (like Spencer's Gifts). In many great ways this mall is a throwback to the late 1980s early 1990s when shopping malls were in their prime. Sadly there are also some empty stores and, I have heard, that there have been mall ownership issues over the last few years. I truly hope that everything works out for the Merritt Square Mall as it is such a wonderful example of what shopping malls once achieved. It gives me goosebumps to imagine it all decked out for the winter holidays with festive displays, a Santa's village and all the blinking lights. It even still has a book store! Update: many locations inside the mall are empty. It is still a lovely place and I really hope many more shops move in to fill up the...
