Visited this park for the first time today and i was somewhat pleased with it. It has 2 areas one for large dogs and one for small dogs. The large dog area is bigger than the small dog area so that is a plus. They do have water fountains so everyone including our fury family members can enjoy a cool drink on a hot day so that is definitely a plus. Some of the downsides are that they only have one station for bags and disposal and for an area as big as the large dog section, they should add a second one on the far end. The large dog area has 3 benches and shade is not really an option here for anyone. I was also a little dissapointed because there were large cracks in the ground from the lack of watering and the grass is thinning in several areas because of it. Now i understand it is a dog park and it will get torn up becauae of all the foot traffic but its still a park and its a section of a park close to the main street. Cleanliness; its pretty clean, people have been picking up but i noticed some people weren't walking all the way to the entrance to get a bag now this is where the convenience of having a 2nd and even a 3rd bag/disposal section would come in handy. But i understand that it is up to us to keep it nice so they could have done their part and grabbed a bag and picked up either way. Besides improving the field, seating and shade another improvement would be to the entrances. First let me explain that these are gates that have a magnet on them to keep them closed not a latch but a magnet. With that being said we arrived at the park and all the gates were ajar we walked in , I closed the first gate and it popped open, closed it again and again it popped open this time I held it in place fir about 2 seconds and it finally atrached and stayed closed. Walked through thr second gate and the same thing. I feel the magnets should be replaced with a latching mechanism for everyones safety. I know there are rules that the dogs must be friendly and obedient but they are still dogs and they want to play and we must understand that there are people that at the 1st site of a dog they begin to panic so seeing a door opened slightly, they see the large dogs and the dogs see them, well i think you can all get...

I go here often, I've had situations here where dog owners would bring their aggressive dog here to relieve stress in the big pen area. Immediately, all dogs that were already playing peacefully started avoiding the aggressive dog that started growling at the other dogs the moment it came in, causing people to separate their dog and leave the park . Today, my dog got attacked by a bigger white dog, and the owner didn't help at all to separate her white dog, who was bitting my dogs neck and didn't want to let go, I ended having to try to grab her dog off that pushed me down, and continued until I grabbed the dog and yelled in it's ears to stop until it finally listened, the small woman tried to grab her big dog and left the park without caring about what had just happened. During the situation, I had asked her many times to help get her dog off, but she just stood there until it was over, before her dog had attack my my dog that was trying to avoid her dog, her dog was growling at the rest of the dogs and trying to dominate them.

Here are photos of the small woman and her white dog that left without saying anything and looked annoyed that...

Boogie is not the most other dog friendly little guy. He is my service dog, and we are always in training it would seem. I almost think he may have taken on a little of my PTSD. we have been living together in the streets for 4+ years but it is always a treat, a God given blessing if you will..that we have such a beautiful piece of land and they do provide running doggy water fountains and potty bags so this gives us the opportunity so long as we get there bright and early or late at night around 10 or so or after to have the whole place to ourselves. For a dog that is always at work this is a little slice of heaven! there is so much space for him to run and Boogie LOVES LOVES LOVES TO RUN!!! it is always so peaceful here and safe and we thank you Mesquite from the bottom of my heart we thank you for providing a place for us to have a break from the trials and tribulations of life and living and without this place we would surely be worse for the wear! God Bless Mesquite, Texas and to those who have contributed to this venture so that the dogs have a place of their own right here on Earth. ! 5...

We come here a bit, but there is dog poop EVERYWHERE. Just now, a guy sat in his car, let his dog jump out the window, and it ran in through the magnetic gates. The owner stayed in the car so the gates were left wide open. I had to run over to shut them before any dogs ran out. The owner stayed in his car on his phone and wouldn’t pick up after his dog who pooped 4 times. Also before we left, the dog ran and opened the gates to go back outside of the park. I REALLY think the gates need to be better secured shut with actual locks so dogs can’t open them by jumping on them or nudging them open. It’s very unsafe. Also, come INSIDE the park with your dogs! And pick up after them! Don’t be so lazy and expect other people to watch your dog for you. Thanks!

It's fine if you live in the neighborhood, I guess. There are a couple of concerns, mainly the magnetic gate that my dog opened and closed with ease. There are also a lot of cracks in the dirt ranging from huge to paw-sized, one or one's dog could sprain an ankle. There's a water fountain, but it's in direct sun, and there is very little shade overall. Zero shade in the small dog area. It's just kind of small and not great, seems poorly planned by the city. Hey Mesquite, your dogs deserve a better park to play in!!
