The Shops at Civica are a breath of fresh air in one of the most toxic corners of Miami. Great food spots, decent coffee, and a clean, professional vibe — basically everything that UMiami Miller School of Medicine across the street completely lacks.
Let me be blunt: Civica is where people go to escape the daily academic misery that is Miller. The contrast is ridiculous. On one side, you have a peaceful space with real community energy. On the other side? You have one of the most ego-infested, backstabbing, politically twisted academic institutions I’ve ever seen.
UMiami Miller isn’t about education — it’s about power. Professors there don’t mentor, they control. Students aren’t guided — they’re manipulated, overworked, and punished for thinking independently. If you don’t play the game, they’ll make sure you regret it. Retaliation isn’t rare — it’s routine. And the people in charge? Some of the most fragile, reputation-obsessed, and disconnected figures in academic medicine today.
Shops at Civica deserves credit for surviving next to that mess. It’s like planting a nice cafe next to a burning building — and still managing to serve smiles.
If you’re just visiting: grab a bite at Civica, enjoy the calm. If you’re thinking about attending UMiami Miller? Run. Or at least, go talk to the students pacing around outside the school on the verge of quitting. You’ll get the real story...

The dental office is Gateway Dental which I have been a patient of for several years. There is also a Dunkin Donut which has some of the best employees of any other Dunkin. I love going there. There is a Smoothie King, a Salsa Fiesta, and recently they opened a chicken place called Hangry Joe's. Currently they are expending vertically and sometime the parking on the...
