This is usually a great place for the family and we like it BUT unfortunately I have to rate it 1 star because even though we are Middleburg Heights residents and members of the rec center, tonight, Thursday, I was baby sitting my 7 and 4 year old niece and nephew who were visiting from Puerto Rico for the first time and I NEVER get to see them, they didn't let them go swim with us tonight, turned them away because of their policy. We are residents and members and we didn't get to enjoy the place with our family on the special day. Every other day they let people from anywhere come to the rec, why couldn't we take these little kids to swim with us for the last hour????? It doesn't make any sense. You should definitely work on fixing that policy, if I'm a member and resident I should be allowed to bring a guest this day, especially when they're just little kids I'm babysitting and the pool was empty! Work on your policies and your customer service skills!!! Other cities in the area have policies in place as well that actually make sense..like you can only get a guest pass if you're with a resident/member, it's a strict policy that makes sense because the rec center/pool is supposed to be for the enjoyment of the residents and their guests but in Middleburg Heights the only day they have designated for that you can't really enjoy it if your family/friends are not exactly from here better not go. Btw we won't renew our membership not just for being denied entry but also because of the lack of customer service as in the lady directed us one by one to clock in our numbers like we didn't know what to do, then like a hawk hunting from the sky was quick to ask "and these two?" As the last of us "members" clocked in she was already pointing at the poor little kids with those hawk like eyes as she asked. They rec center ball leagues will practice on Sundays yet deny family to enjoy one another...
Read moreThe leadership of this facility is horrible. They have no grasp of customer service, training or problem solving. The building has a childcare room, but it's not staffed, nor do they seem to care to solve this problem. I'm sure any business person could make it profitable in short order. They state they don't have the staff, but why do they need four people working the front desk when all they seem to do is verify the credentials of those entering the building and basic administrative work.
The center has become a senior center. They removed the spinning room to create a seniors lounge which apparently no one ever uses. Compared to Brookpark and Strongsville recs, they are not kid friendly.
The lap lanes always seem to be filled with senior water walkers or swimming lessons. So pretty much what happens is 10 kids take up nearly half the pool for swim lessons.
Finally the customer service of the front desk is poor and the staff lacks basic training of the events or services of the center. When asked about classes, events or rules the answer is normally, "I don't know" or "check out our website". They used to have flyers for most events, but the flyer rack is mostly empty now. And heaven forbid if you ask one of the front desk workers a question which requires them to stop doing school work or looking at their phones.
All of these issues are not the result of poor workers, but of...
Read moreI like that they have lots of activities with the pool but there are a few things to note. First, the indoor slide is almost never opened. I’ve been going here for years and it’s been opened maybe around 5-6 times. If there aren’t enough lifeguards for both of them to be open at the same time I’m sure a schedule can be made so that way people have a chance to get on both slides. I also want to write about an experience that happened to my friends and I here. There’s a little hippo outside you can go on. My friends and I were trying to get on it and help each other but one lifeguard kept yelling at us about it saying to not PURPOSELY tip it. It was ONLY the one lifeguard. We went inside and the same lifeguard switches with another one. She starts yelling at us again for “playing on the rope”. For context, we were going under it to get on the lanes. Literally 5 minutes later there were kids jumping on it and she didn’t say a word to them even after she looked dead at them! Felt kinda targeted by that lifeguard but I haven’t seen her in awhile, so that’s great. Other than those 2 things, the...
