A wonderful old theatre, still under improvements. It has a rustic, industrial charm, with its exposed brick and what appears that it may have been the original stage and curtains. The seating used at the performance I attended on 01/17/15, were old metal folding chairs without any cushion. But that has nothing to do with why I rated it so low.... The apparent "senior" staff person on that night had absolutely No Clue about what he was doing! Most notably, he had absolutely no understanding of customer service. Literally half of the audience were unable to hear the performer "The Amazing Kreskin" due to a problem with the sound system. I stepped out into the lobby to find this young man in charge. I attempted to let him know that many of us were unable to hear and then suggested that he please at least make Mr. Kreskin aware (it is a very audience interactive show and Mr. Kreskin was becoming equally annoyed with audience's lack of participation). Although I was unaware of it, I could take from his response that others had already expressed the concern. But that still did not justify his immediate reaction to yell at me and threaten to have me removed from the theatre. I was dumbfounded (and by the look on the faces of the other theatre staff present, they were also.). Not sure how that would have gone for him because as I returned to my seat there was a line of other patrons going to express the same concern. As it turned out, in a later segment of the show when Mr. Kreskin used the hand held mic, it was perfectly clear. So for the simple fix of just switching microphones, half of the audience missed over half of the $30 / ticket show. What an incompetent amateur. I could go on about him, those sitting around me were commenting on him from the very beginning before the show even began when he stepped up to the stage to announce upcoming events. His manner of dress was completely unprofessional, looking as if he had just stepped out of the alley, and his ability to speak was not what one would expect from someone with any experience in theatre, he sounded like he had a mouthful of marbles. But that is another matter... Cool place, but owners and upper management need to do a better job selecting "senior" staff if they have any hope of...
Read moreI went with a group of ladies ages from 39 to 63 to see Who's Bad, the Michael Jackson tribute band. We have seen this band several times and they are awesome. However this venue is not conducive for dancing. If you are a person, like us, who goes to concerts to really enjoy the band and music and like to dance I would suggest seeing the band at another venue. Dont get me wrong, this venue is cute and it is set up for plays, ballet, orchestras, musicals, movies, anything where you would expect to sit the entire show. They have a bar and snacks and have tables for every 2 seats for your drinks and snacks and they have high top tables in the very back, however there isn't anywhere to dance. We bought the high top tables in the back, which are also placed at a lower elevation than the theater seats so you are just about at same eye level as the very last theatre row seat. The high top tables are not at a higher elevation than the regular seats, so it is hard to see over people's heads if your short. It also made it an issue for dancing. There is a small area between the last regular theatre row seats and the steps down to the high top table area, its like a walkway area to the bar and behind the sound man. So we tried to dance there but we had staff come over and tell us people were complaining that we were blocking their view from the other high top tables. It was very awkward that only our group was dancing but we did get the table next to us to dance and one kid from the last theater row to dance with us. Everyone else was just sitting in their seats. I felt bad for the band because the audience energy didn't seem that high but the venue again isnt set up for a true...
Read moreMy children have attended summer camp performance weeks at Milton Theater for several years now. My two kids had a good experience so a 2 rating seemed appropriate and a couple staff members were very nice in light of all the frustrations this year. This year has been the worst "parent" experience in all the years. First it started with shows sold out before parents could even purchase tickets (no tickets do not come with the student's camp package). Milton theatre added a viewing of the dress rehearsal to try to accommodate - however they should bring back the Saturday performances. Then I felt one of the staff members was extremely rude to me on every interaction the entire week. She seemed very miserable and perhaps its the summer camp, however kindness should not be met with rudeness. At one point I snapped and finally treated her the way she treated me all week. Sadly, theatre is something we enjoy greatly as a family and the entire family feel this week was gone. The kids always met their parents after the shows in the past, this year they did not come out for the noon show. And since the last show at 2pm was sold out, I was not able to get cast pictures or hand my kids the well deserved flowers for a great performance. Considering that the parents actually "pay" for all the actors in the summer camp shows, I feel parents should have tickets to each show or exclusive first purchase for at least two tickets - if they will not be added to the already expensive camp package....
