The beans she has are allegedly all organic. Of the two pounds we got, my wife and I both agree they are remarkably smooth and not as acidic as some of the many other’s we’ve encountered. The opportunity to talk with Lara, to gain her insight into each of the types of coffee available at the moment, is just something you don’t get at the typical store or online.
Something she pulled out of her shelf of buckets was a “Brazil Sul De Minas” this Arabica bean was roasted lighter compared to what I usually purchase. It was the first one we had the next day; but later it occurred, she may have suggested we should have let it rest a few days as it had just been roasted and some short interval allows the flavors to mature; new knowledge I’d not heard before as I’ve not usually gotten beans so fresh. We both agreed it had an incredibly mild flavor profile and was very smooth with a lack of bitterness. We will have to observe if we perceive time improving it.
A standard I seek to judge one provider from another is “French Roast”. I’m betting this is a common interest, as she had two degrees of darkness on hand. I ended up with the darker of the two: “Honduran dark French Roast”. It has the classic oily texture on the beans and rich aroma in her shop. She assured me though it was only a few days since roasting, it was ready to drink. On one of her Facebook posts, Lara’s tasting notes describe Honduran beans as having “green apple, peach, blueberries, champagne, grapes, mangoes, and subtle jasmine tones.” I’m willing to admit she has a more refined palate when assessing coffee as compared to me.
Over the course of a few days it continues to grow on me and both of us are enjoying the richness and depth. It might not be as bold and strong a smack you in the face type of French Roast as some but has a bit more refinement; and certainly less burnt compared to some. Maybe someday I’ll find the peaches and blueberries she was talking about...
A point in reviews you might read online is about how folks are impressed they can order coffee and it’s ready the same day. When I’m sure this is a nice option should you be positive of what you want, it was only on a whim that we decided to call her to confirm she was home, available, coffee was to be had and it was ok for us to swing over. I’m not sure if it is a common condition but she had a good assortment ready for sale without pre-order if the mood strikes you.
Obviously with storage limitations she will not be huge right away in E-commerce fulfillment of web orders but she does have a modest portal online. Thus her face-to-face interaction with customers allows for that ability to speak to the particular strengths of her products and customer needs. It gives the customer an experience that is unique in a world full of stuff ordered online, shipped via mail and thrown on the front porch.
On Yelp, current reviews were “not currently recommended”. Maybe as some had no other reviews. Yet one positive reviewer did have 15 total reviews; so why Yelp is discounting her? One can read enough other positive reviews & see this vendor is clearly not seeking to inflate her profile via fake ratings. I certainly was not offered any such incentive beyond a friendly smile, good service and a great product. Get it together Yelp and do some comparative analysis or become obsolete.
As she was prepping our order, she recounted how she grew up in a family with a history in the coffee business in the Republic of Türkiye. I believe she’s only been in this current business location since fall 2023 and with summer 2024, is looking forward to adding air conditioning to the she shed her roaster operation occupies.
When the procurement of the large bags is onerous, involving her driving sometimes many miles to manage the shipping costs, it is her ambition to increase volume so that shipping might soon be cost effective directly to her...
Read moreMilton Home Coffee & Roastery has some of the best coffee I have ever tasted. It is extremely smooth and flavorful. On top of that, they also offer a wide variety of teas, juices, and smoothies. Their baked goods are wonderful too. This should be your “go to” place for coffee, teas, etc.
Here’s an update to my below review. Everything stated below is still true, however, Milton Home Coffee & Roastery has now opened its shop in downtown Milton. It is exactly what a local coffee shop should be. Quaint, cozy, and a friendly atmosphere. This is in addition to the wonderful coffee. Since its opening, my wife and I have been regular visitors. I’m normally someone who drinks drip coffee, but occasionally I will have a cappuccino. Am I glad to have tried Laura’s cappuccino. I’ve had cappuccinos at various restaurants and coffee shops in the US and Europe, and Laura’s cappuccino is the best I have ever had. Like her regular coffee, it is very smooth and flavorful. It is certainly worth a try when you visit the Milton Home Coffee & Roastery.
I finally had the chance to purchase coffee from the Milton Home Coffee Roastery, and now I’m wondering what took me so long. I bought the Honduras Medium blend. I regularly drink coffee with different flavors, but when I do brew unflavored coffee, I normally add some cinnamon. When I brewed the Honduras, I decided not to add anything to it. I wanted to just taste the flavor of the coffee. I was glad I didn’t add anything. The Honduras flavor was very smooth and mild. I’m looking forward to continually enjoying the coffee as I work through the pound. Laura was great to work with to arrange a time to pick up the coffee, and I am looking forward to having the Milton shop open. I will be a...
Read moreWe have made a habit of finding random small business coffee shops around the country and Milton Home Coffee Roastery is tied for the most unique (tied with an espresso machine in a rock shop in Utah).
We did call ahead and the owner went so far as to even call back a few minutes later to ensure we had good directions and would be able to find her. Greeting us at the door, we were welcomed into the small coffee-roasting operation. Lara explained to us about different beans and the general coffee-making process. She offered samples for us to try and helped us to pick roasts to purchase beans to bring home.
Added bonus - we noticed beautiful ceramic coffee cups on a shelf and asked if they were for sale. They were - and come to find out, the owner had made them!
If you appreciate good coffee, don't miss checking this small...
