It makes me sad to review it with two stars after hearing a lot of good things about them and viewing the great designs they do on their social media. I guess those are only done by a few individuals I know of one for sure who has gotten rave reviews.
Other reviews said anyone at the place was going to be good, so I booked. I booked online with Kayla and when the day arrived I called the salon to confirm I had an appointment as I didn’t receive s confirmation via email or text. The receptionist immediately put me on hold and when she picked back up I told her I wanted to confirm my 2:45pm appointment with Kayla. She took my name and she said yes she had the appointment for dipping powder with a design, but she couldn’t put me with Kayla. I said ok that was fine as long as the manicurist would do a nice job as it was my first time and I was trying to find a new nail salon. She assured me it would be fine.
I got to my appointment at 2:40pm checked in and they said it would be a few minute wait, totally understandable as it was a busy Saturday. What I didn’t anticipate is that my 2:45pm appointment ended up started at 3:15pm. They said online it would be a 90 minute appointment, that would have been fine if the appointment had actually started at 2:45pm as I had an work appointment at 4:30 not too far away. Unfortunately because it was late I had to cancel and reschedule my work appointment.
Additionally the young lady who did my nails was nice, I showed her a sample photo, nothing too hard, solid colors, three black and two whiteish and three fingers just with gold foil spread out. She dipped all my fingers in a white powder that I thought was a base for dipping powder, but as she continued to dip I realized that was the white nail color and was about to have gel put on when I asked if she was going to do the black. She looked confused and ask black? I showed her the sample photo again and she quickly started to redo the hands. I realize I should have spoken up sooner snd I will apologize for that. What I wasn’t thrilled about however was when she was taking off the white with a grinder that the chunks of polish got into the two nails that were suppose to be white and she only removed the larger chunks. This causes the white nails to have divets in the nails even when the gel polish on top was applied. She ground down the powder to get rid of the divets but that ended up leaving some of the nails a lot thinner than others ans more susceptible to chipping sooner. Additionally not all the nail shapes were the same. I’m ok with some variation of a rounded square short nail but I had two fingers end up being oval bc the polish ans dip didn’t reach the tip snd broke off later that day to where I had to file and reshape the nail myself at home.
I get dipping powder because it usually last longer than gel, unfortunately not these nails. I was less than a week out and already have two chipped nails where the polish is slowly just coming off and I’ve had to file and reshape myself. As well as gel polish coming off from my nail cuticle area because the gel polish was souped onto some of the nails and now it’s causing the polish to break around the nail cuticle.
They continue to look ok but it wasn’t worth the $88.00 that I spent on an establishment that was suppose to have high marks and is a bit more expensive than other salons in the area. I wanted to like the service, everyone was nice and I liked the colors they had, but if the nails don’t hold together after a week and they don’t put you with who you scheduled with I don’t see the value in...
Read moreI am 15 years old and never write reviews, but recently I got my nails done at France Nails & Spa and ran into some major issues when it came time to pay for my nails. When I originally booked my appointment, I scheduled myself for a Dipping Powder manicure that is listed as $65 on their website. Mid-way through my manicure, my technician suggested that it would "be better for me" if I got a Full Set with Powder Colors instead of Dipping Powder, mind you the Powder Colors service is $80, and, at the time, I was not made aware of this fact. So, when the service was finished, I went to the register to pay and was appalled when the clerk told me my service would be $80. My technician came over to the register to clarify that the reasoning behind the cost was because I had gotten the Powder Colors service instead of the Dipping Powder service, and that even if I had gotten the Dipping Powder service, it would have cost the same amount because I got "length" added. I have gotten Dipping Powder acrylic nails (WITH length) at France Nails & Spa twice before in the past, and have paid no more than $55 - $65 for my services not including the additional tip. When I told her this, she simply shook her head "no" and proceeded to gaslight me into believing that the price for Dipping Powder with length has always been $80. At this point, I wasn't in the mood to argue any longer and I could tell she wasn't taking me seriously (probably because of my age), so I let it go and paid for my nails. Either way, I likely wouldn't be writing this review if she had simply told me that it was going to be extra money for her to do the Powder Colors service. When she "suggested" this service, it felt as though I had no choice in the matter because she didn't ask me if I wanted to, (basically, "I'm GOING to do this" versus "do you WANT me to do this?") which is not only rude but manipulation at its finest. At the time, I didn't stop her from doing so because I assumed the price wouldn't be affected. I might be only 15 but I'm definitely not stupid. I know very well that if it were my mother getting her nails done, they wouldn't think twice about overcharging her. Obviously, I don't have a job and therefore I only brought enough money to pay for my service and to give my technician a tip. I even thought I might have some cash leftover, but I left the salon with a single dollar in my wallet. I would have given a one star review, but my nails actually look pretty good; just not for a whopping $80 considering the fact that they're only about half...
Read moreI've been to a few different high end nail salons throughout the twin cities. I had been going to one in Minneapolis and have always had great experiences there; I've never been disappointed, but I live in Brooklyn Center and wanted to find something closer to me with an easier drive and better parking. I follow France Nails and Spa on Instagram and have always liked what I have seen. I get anxious about trying new places because I'm quite particular, so when I find a place or person I like, I tend to stick with them. That being said, I could not be more thrilled with my choice to come here! It's an easy to find location not far from highway 100. Easy to spot location and ample free parking.
My nail tech was Erica. She was quiet, didn't seem to have much to say, but very sweet when we did chat here and there. That being said, I was also quite tired myself and it was relaxing to have my nails done so I didn't have much to say either!
I have pretty sensitive nail beds, and the dremels often get hot very quickly for me. She was very mindful when using it and made sure to tell me to let her know if it started to feel hot - this may seem like a common sense thing to do, but sometimes I feel like I'm being a pest or whiney by doing so, and it was nice to be reassured that I can communicate freely if it ever became uncomfortable.
I showed a photo of what I was lookinng for, and described the length and shape that I like. I'm really quite particular about the shape and length of my nails, and while I've never had a BAD experience at previous places I have gone, I've also never been THIS pleased with how my nails have turned out. I could not be happier with the shape, length, and design of my nails. The prices are fair, the environment is clean and bright, and the music was good. I can't wait to try other services here as well!
I will absolutely be returning, and I will definitely be requesting to see Erica again. France Nails and Spa is a win for me. Thank you! I'll see...
