Read moreVery cool day trip, especially on hot days! The tickets are timed entry, but there is a ton to keep the kids entertained until you go into the actual butterfly room. The parking lot is a little smaller than you’d expect and is on a hillside, but it seems like there’s a constant flow of people leaving. It only took a minute to find a spot (they’re kinda small, so large trucks might have trouble). Inside, there’s a large gift shop that covers the whole first floor. There are some cool trinkets and toys for young kids, beautiful jewelry, ornaments and keychains, and even preserved butterflies. Upstairs, there’s a reptile room, mirror maze, rope maze, a 15 minute movie, and the butterfly room. The reptile room is really cool with lots of animals that aren’t typically seen at a zoo or other places. The mirror maze was a HUGE hit with our kids (aged 2-13)—it has an entrance and a different exit, so it feels like an accomplishment when they find their way thru. It’s black light, too, so the kids enjoyed their clothes and teeth lighting up! The rope maze was small but would be super fun for younger kids. The movie is only 15 minutes long—perfect for kids and adults alike. There’s seating outside the movie room and butterfly area, and lots of photo ops. A mural on the wall that turns you into a butterfly, several butterfly chairs, and a few butterfly statues made with beads. The butterfly exhibit is AWESOME! Hundreds flying around, and they immediately zone in on those with red shirts. It’s the same color as the nectar tubes, which they also love, so be ready to be swarmed! There are also some tiny finch sized birds with bright colors. It’s very humid inside (it’s a rainforest). That was a little hard on the kids, but it’s not too bad if you’re prepared. The exhibit guides are hilarious! They have to check you before leaving to make sure the butterflies don’t escape, and they make it fun for everyone. The bracelets are good for three days, so don’t take them off. They’re also waterproof, so no biggie if you swim during...
Read moreThis place was very nice. Very peaceful and very well done. The main attraction of course is the Aviary. It's a very serene, well done "tropical" environment. That said, it is a bit warm and humid, but not close to overwhelming. You have to be careful, but there are butterflies everywhere. They provide you with small "test tube" sized bottles with a "red flower" on the top. They are filled with a Gatorade based "nectar" to attract butterflies. They work pretty well. My daughter had up to five butterflies at one time. In addition to the aviary, they have some fun things for the kids - a bungee cord jungle to work through and a mirror maze which is very well done. They have a few short videos with some very good information. And they have their science center - a small room with various lizards, frogs, turtles, etc. No snakes...they don't have snakes, and they had a sign that they don't have snakes for the comfort of their guests...they know some people don't like snakes no matter if you have them behind glass or not. They also had some animal encounter type things where some of the employees come out for 15 minutes or so and talk about one of the little creatures they have there. We learned some interesting stuff about piranhas and sideneck turtles. They have a well appointed gift shop with a good range of items for young and old, in price ranges of inexpensive to "DON'T TOUCH THAT!". The cost is reasonable, and if you keep the wrist band on (think similar in nature to a hospital type band), you can come back anytime for three days. We spent about a half a day there, and had a very fun, relaxing time. Well...
