A local treasure, well worth the visit in-season. Only available a few months per year - during the hawk migration in late summer and early fall - it is a large flat gravel platform on top of the First Mountain in Montclair. The view is incredible, and if you are a birder it is a dream. Silas - who works for the NJ Audubon Society (the caretakers of the site) - is there almost every day counting hawks. The day we went he said he counts over 3k hawks per day! Very cool. Other than answering a couple questions, Silas is very focused on his work and not there as an educator (unfortunately).
