A local treasure, well worth the visit in-season. Only available a few months per year - during the hawk migration in late summer and early fall - it is a large flat gravel platform on top of the First Mountain in Montclair. The view is incredible, and if you are a birder it is a dream. Silas - who works for the NJ Audubon Society (the caretakers of the site) - is there almost every day counting hawks. The day we went he said he counts over 3k hawks per day! Very cool. Other than answering a couple questions, Silas is very focused on his work and not there as an educator (unfortunately). The hike up is very steep but short, and the last bit involves climbing a steep ladder. Not for the faint of heart but my kids under 10 did it, no problem. We are lucky to have the...

The sign says that it’s open from September to December from 9 AM to 5 PM. Not sure which one of those is incorrect but today it wasn’t...
