Kings Food Markets — Local services in Montclair

This place is and has always been wildly overpriced relative to Whole Food's, ACME, ShopRite, and other local options. Whatever, I go here out of convenience and for the apparently fresher proteins. Unfortunately, the staff have become increasingly impolite over the years. Go to the deli for fresh cold cuts and folks tending the counter act as if servicing you is an imposition…vacant stares and grunts. Ask for a specific weight of chicken or ground beef from a “butcher” is met with a gruff “no can do.” I’m guessing overpriced groceries are not supporting better wages and employees are not incentivized to treat customers kind. No service or courtesy to go with overpriced groceries - no thanks. I’ll stick to the other stores...

Today I'm raving about the seafood department. Variety, outstanding... visual display is beautiful. Can't get any fresher unless you get on a boat and catch it yourself. I see a few negative comments about this store.. go elsewhere .. it's clean, charming, has items that aren't found elsewhere and is terrific when you need something in a pinch. It was great till check out. The cash register wasn't equipped to allow a foodstamp transaction when a person uses a gift card. It took approximately 30 minutes to deal with that. Then after that was found to be the problem I was told by the customer service person that I was out of luck for the gift card that day I would not be able to use it once the Transaction was done etc. The store manager had to intercede for me to receive my credit. Although it was not my fault the customer service made me feel as if it was. ...
