Seals & sea lions — Attraction in Monterey

This is a big to do..... hundreds of sea lions have overtaken a park in between cannery row and the fishermans warf. A warning it gets stinky after awhile. Nevertheless what a sight! All these sea lions lounging and barking and some even seem to be puttin on a show for all the lookie loos. Visited Dec 2024. After driving and paying for an hour of parking, my family and I made our way to where the sea lions and seals lounge. Unfortunately, its gated off by coast guard. I was told it was permanently closed off to public. You can catch a glimpse of an occasional seal swimming around where local fisherman have many lines. Great views of the bay but you can't really see the sea lion haul out. The end of the pier is fenced off because it is a Coast Guard station.
