My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel on 6/15/21 and stayed 2 nights. First, I’d like to point the amazing things we absolutely loved. First, Hotel is located right on the corner and within steps from the Old Fisherman’s Wharf as well as the beach. We didn’t have to drive anywhere. Everything was within walking distance. Saved us time and hassle for parking. Secondly, the room we chose was the Panoramic King bed with fireplace! OMG! This room was lovely! We were amazed at the views. We were in room 320 which is located on floor 3 and a corner view. I’ll attach pictures. The entire corner of our room was glass window with a big balcony! You can leave your curtains open and you have a WIDE view of the entire ocean! Absolutely loved this the most! We slept with the balcony opened all night. It was not too cold and we could hear the ocean waves all night. The fireplace keeps it toasty. They also gave us some wine, 2 champagne glasses and chocolates. That was nice! We didn’t expect that at all. The room was perfect And we didn’t hear any noises at all. All we could hear was ocean and a few seals and birds here and there but it didn’t bother us. We slept great! I also loved that continental breakfast was included (pastries, coffee, OJ, teas, boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt). The bathroom was huge and had a jacuzzi tub and nice shower. Beautiful granite and private bathroom. To top it off, the bathroom had a nice big window overlooking g the ocean as well. This was so nice! The room also had a nice bar area and refrigerator. Plenty of towels and room to store things.
Ok, here’s what We didn’t like. First, the bed. The bed was not anything fancy. The blankets and comforter looked old fashion and had a weird smell. I took them off and we only used the sheets. The bed was low and seemed outdated. The pillows weren’t that great. Had to call room service for extra pillows. Also, the furniture (2 chairs) were old looking and even had stains on them. I used a towel to sit on them. I feel the bed and 2 chairs need to be replaced. It felt like a cheap motel bed. Also, the balcony chairs were kind of dirty and had stains or poop from the Seagulls. Not sure if they tried to clean them or not. Had to use towels to sit on those. We also had to pay for parking each night. I didn’t like that. For the price we pay I feel parking should be included. It’s like $24 a night. You also have to park in the garage but it’s on the premises. The TV was great and like I said the rest of the room was beautiful but the wide ocean views sold me! The staff were nice and pleasant. The interior and entrance of hotel are nice and clean. They gave a jacuzzi on level 3 but we didn’t get a chance to test it out. The views are amazing. You can see boats sailing, the beach and the wharf right from your balcony.
That said, we would definitely stay there again. Hopefully, they upgrade their beds...
Read moreWhen we first got to the hotel after driving in from SFO all we wanted was to get in the hot tub. As we were checking in, we asked for towels and the woman at the front desk said she would have them sent up to our room. We went up there got ready and the towels never came so on the way to the hot tub we stopped back at the front desk to grab them. She told us they weren’t there, apologized for the delay and told us to go the hot tub and assured us they would bring them there in 5 min. They never came so after our hot tub we ran back to our room freezing and soaking wet through the hallways. All we wanted was to get in the shower after a long travel day and freezing from not having towels after the hot tub and that’s when we noticed they had never cleaned the bathroom from the last guest as there was long hair all over the tub. We were so grossed out we decided to check the entire room and we saw stains on the sheets.
We went down to the lobby and told the same woman about the towels, the uncleaned bathroom, and the stains on the sheets. She was embarrassed and helpful and upgraded our room to an ocean view with a balcony on the corner of the building. She did mention the room was available for every night aside from the very last night we were there so we would have to move. She told us the last night the room was slightly smaller but still ocean facing. We were very grateful for the upgrade and forgiving.
A couple days later with one night left in the first room she moved us to, we checked in at the front desk to make sure everything was all set for us. The woman who had helped us was off for a couple of days so we were dealing with a young guy. He looked it up and said we were set up to be in a room facing the street. We told him what had happened and he said he’d look into it. We left for the day and when we came back we checking in with a woman who said she was the manager. She told us the hotel had done enough for us already and if we wanted a room facing the ocean for the last night we would have to pay for the upgrade. When I explained what happened she kept cutting me off and said we didn’t have to stay there that night and we could leave.
We took her up on her offer because we were over it at that point. This hotel is super dated, the carpets are gross and stained, the wall paper is peeling, you can hear people in the rooms next to you, the tub you see in photos online is all scratched up and looks horrible, the coffee cans they use to serve you are all beat up, the coffee is folders at best, the breakfast is more of a snack and the manager is rude.
We still give this place a 3 because of its views and the bed was comfy. I still can’t believe that they had a room on the ocean no one was using and she refused to let us have it because she felt “they already did enough”. Ok, fine, we took our $450 and spent it at another hotel and had...
Read moreThe Monterey Bay Inn is a spectacular oceanfront place to stay when in Monterey and adventuring around the breathtaking central California coastline. My oceanfront room was absolutely beautiful and Wildlife abounded as the area is a National Marine Sanctuary; including sea lions, sea otters, and oodles of wonderful seabirds. The location is absolutely perfect and everything is within walking distance (fisherman’s wharf, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay aquarium, San Carlos Beach, tons of restaurants and shopping). I did rent a car because I was doing the 17 mile drive and then taking the Pacific Coast highway down to see spectacular Big Sur. Parking at the Inn was super easy and plentiful at the hotel and note there is a daily parking charge.|Every morning, a wonderful and free breakfast is delivered right to your room at the time you request!! This was seriously the best way to start every day. The room was modern, super clean and comfortable with cozy linens and a luxurious bathroom. There are even bathrobes. The private balconies are so peaceful and a beautiful flowering plant adds to the ambiance. There are fresh baked cookies at check-in and the lobby area has three video screens of marine life with peaceful music from the Monterey Bay aquarium. San Carlos Beach is right next to the Monterey Bay Inn and is a lovely and relaxing park setting to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather and ocean. I loved listening to the ocean waves every evening as well as the enchanting vocalizations of the sea lion colony in the area. There’s also lots of sea otters rafting together in the kelp beds, just out front of my oceanfront room. The staff are extremely warm, welcoming, professional, and helpful. Everyone gave me great suggestions and assistance each day for my adventures out along the coastline of the Monterey Peninsula and south for more adventuring on California’s Central coastline. I will definitely be staying here again for my next vacation...
