My family of three (two adults and a teen) is on day two of a 5 day/4 night stay here at Wave Street Inn and we are pretty close to miserable. Though the room is decorated nicely and furnished with comfortable beds, and the bathroom is quite spacious, the two queen beds make for a mall and cramped space. There isn’t even room to walk to the bathroom when one of us is sitting in the only chair in the room. The occupants above us are constantly banging around and the sound reverberates through the floor. We were told the guests had checked out this morning, but the banging is as loud this afternoon as ever. thin walls and ceilings I guess. Our room is also across from the elevator, so there is a lot of pedestrian traffic going by at all hours of the night. Given that we booked this room seven months in advance for a rate greater than the current booking rate, and that we are staying for longer than a casual weekend, I feel we could have and should have been given a bit more consideration and been assigned a room on a top floor or at least one not across from the elevator. I actually requested a new room, but first was told rooms couldn’t be reassigned and then after pressing the issue, that all rooms were booked even though it is Sunday and a steady stream of people were checking out. To top it off, this morning I tried to purchase tix for the aquarium, as the hotel is a partner, but I was first told the link was not working, and an hour later, that my credit card would not work. We gave up and headed to the aquarium to buy tickets, only to find that our credit card had already been charged twice! The Aquarium took care of the hotel’s error for us. I am writing this review because when I booked the room in January, I had plenty of choices of where to stay for $250-300/night. Had I known the walls were thin, the rooms were cramped and customer service is lacking, I would have...
Read moreI had purchased close to $100 worth of snacks and beverages that needed to be refrigerated for my two children, my significant other and myself, the refrigerator wasn't working, so I called the front desk and they sent someone to fix it, the individual said that he fixed it and in the morning when we woke up, the refrigerator wasn't working and the majority of the food and beverages that was purchased had either spoiled and or wasn't fresh anymore. The beds were not very comfortable, and we didn't sleep very well. When taking a shower, the soap that I use all the time at home didn't rinse off well and left a slimy film on my skin and my son’s skin and we both have sensitive skin and it left us scratching all day. When addressing these issues when checking out, staff responded to my complaints with bewilderment, like the issues couldn't be possible and no one has ever had a problem with these issues and that they apologize for any inconveniences and that they will address them with management. At that point, I didn't care who it was addressed to, my money had already been spent on the room and an overnight trip from Bakersfield for my son's birthday to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and beach had just been soured by a real unsatisfactory stay at this hotel. They sent me an email survey regarding my experience, and I conveyed it clearly and they did not respond, which didn’t shock me, because they got my money and didn’t care if what I paid for wasn’t satisfactory. Bad business and a waste of my time and money. Would never go back there and don’t recommend anyone else going...
Read moreWe stayed at Wave Street Inn for a few nights in mid/late June. Upon arrival we encountered what was truly a minor room issue, but the way it was handled by the front desk was incredibly unprofessional, humiliating, and inexcusable, to the point that we asked if we could check out of this motel early, without a penalty (and the only reason for the missing 5th stars). Jon came to our rescue, and went so above and beyond to make things right for us. He gave us a new room (fresh start) and even checked up on us the next day. His genuine concern, professionalism, and friendliness was heartwarming. Christine, too, was helpful to us, giving us great advice about things to do in the area, and Carol was very warm and welcoming when we made our reservations. These are the people (especially Jon) who would make us come back to Wave Street Inn again and again. As for the Inn, it's a reminiscent of a mid-century motel, a bit dated but with tons of character, comfy bed with nice linens, and super strong water pressure in the shower. And nice and clean. If I had one wish: that the motel provided conditioner along with the shampoo. The conditioning shampoo doesn't really work; I thought that the hand lotion was the conditioner and used that the first night. A fun story to tell, anyway! One more huge positive... the location (fantastic) and the AMAZING Wave Street Cafe across the street. Best...
