Walking along the peir you are bound to see a few sea birds flapping their wings as they jump from post to post upon the peir as it stretches out over the marsh land into the cooper river. Most of the view is pleasant, full of a Gorgeous sight of the Charleston city scape lying just beyond the other side of the river, or perhaps you will catch a glimpse of a large container ship which can be beautiful in their own engineered right. That's not to say however that there isn't an abundance of filth that can bee seen floating along the edge of the Marsh land, likely debris that has floated down the river from the inland. It's just another constant reminder for how much people tend to neglect the environments that we live around, and that help sustain ourselves. Birds can be seen using the debris in the Marshy grass as bridges as they peck at bright plastic caps floating in the water likely thinking it's some kind of edible creature, when in reality it's just more inedible trash.
I didn't fish so I can speak to how good of a spot this peir is for fishing, although I can say that the day I visited it, no one caught anything significant just a bunch of (and I quote) "Finger Mullets" which ended up getting casted back in as bait. That being said there are many provisions for fishers on the peir such as sinks, and places to throw away...
Read moreBrief stopover and saw a rope bridge in the distance, figured I had time to waste or enjoy area. Drove into the area I was surprised they don't charge for parking, as I passed the playground area which is super clean I parked all the way at the end just before the circle. First stop was the monument showing appreciation for first responders and public works. My second stop was gift shop at the pier entrance where I asked if there was a fee to walk onto the pier, and surprisingly there is no charge ( y'all Florida cities with piers, take note- NO CHARGE). The pier was somewhat shaded depending on the time you get here and it is extremely clean and quiet being used by people my age and I won't say( my daughter call us white heads) which comes from your kids stressing you out... 😂. I noticed there were no pigeons or sea loving birds on the pier being a bother and no bird poop all over the place. I don't know how they pulled this one off but kudos to the City of Mount Pleasant S.C The view is fantastic looking out across the harbor. You're so focus on the surroundings you forget there are vehicles passing overhead on the bridge above you. There is seating available along the pier and fish cleaning stations if I lived here I'd be here every day until I got tired or employees at the gift shop got tired of...
Read moreI am starting to fish again, and this is one of my favorite places to go. We caught a puffer fish, a crab and the guy next us caught something that look like a snake and a fish mixed we threw it all back.
Extremely clean and roomy. There is lots of seating on the pier. There is, a water source to clean your fish, located directly on the pier.
Lots of covered spaces with shade. You can rent a fishing rod, buy bait, and buy a fishing pass.
The pier is great for walking, lots of open spaces, and there are walking trails that lead to the other side of Mount Pleasant.
If you cross the street, you can take the pathway and walk up the Ravenel Bridge.
There is a really nice playground at the very front of the park. It is always filled with kids and laughter.
Closer to the parking area is an event space and public restrooms. Beautiful views and great for groups. Accessible parking and seating available.
#ttips: come close to Sunset for beautiful pictures of the sun going down...
