Been in here severallll times. My husband is into RC cars so he goes in there frequently for parts and what not. Went in there today for my husband to pick up his RC car. Brought our oldest daughter in for the first time. I showed her the roller coaster toy and showed her how to crank it. She is a little bit short so she had to stretch on her tip toes to crank it. She wasn’t hurting anything by any means but I think his name is Edgar said “we have a no tip toe rule in here and that means you” talking straight to my daughter. I was baffled because I was literally standing there helping her. I mean, she’s a 10 year old not a little kid.
Then shortly after that, my 5 year old jumped on this pad that shoots a rocket up in the air. It was already sitting out but the hose wasn’t straightened so even though she jumped on it, the rocket didn’t do anything. I turned around to help her and then the owner or at least an older guy came out and he was like “you can only shoot rockets in here within the circles” So there it was, the mama bear in me was at full rage at this point. So I smiled at my girls while my husband was up at the counter getting his RC car and I said let’s go. So after I push the girls out the door and we waited for my husband outside, the two workers made a comment along the lines of “guess mom doesn’t want them to play” while my husband was standing right there. Well, sorry guys but you need to learn how to read the room. It’s not a matter of “guess mom doesn’t want them to play” rather it’s a matter of mom recognized the hurt and embarrassment in both of my kids faces after each of them had been called out by Edgar and the store owner.
Alright, sorry hubby but we are gonna get your RC parts somewhere else from here on out. I respect that they have their own set of rules but after seeing the embarrassed look in my 10 year olds face after the guy called her out for being on her tip toes and then the other guy was rude about the rocket, I’m done. If you have a problem with my kids, you talk to me about it. Not them. This all happened within a matter of 2 or 3 minutes after walking inside the store.
As soon as my husband joined us outside, he was the one that first spoke about how unpleasant that whole encounter was and he actually was the first one to say we won’t be going back because of how incredibly uncomfortable the sales men made it. And to think, my 10 year old asked me what it was that she had done to make them “mad at her.” You guys made a 10 year old feel that way. I’m all for supporting small businesses but you have to give me a reason to...
Read moreUpon entering I was very impressed with the inventory and help that I received. As I was looking around the store enjoying my time I saw small gauge trains on tracks out in the open at about 5 feet high. I naturally rolled the trains back and forth a few times and within seconds a bearded man with glasses quickly came around the corner and snapped “please don’t touch the trains. I don’t like them to get banged up.” I actually laughed as I thought he was joking since the trains were out in such an open place…at a TOY shop. I mentioned that they look like nice trains and sound nice running on the tracks. But he maintained his opposition to me touching the trains and said “if you like the sound, you should buy your own set and you can hear it anytime you want.” What?!
It’s a toy store and you have an employee snapping at adults for gently touching inventory that is out in the open. In the shops, defense, there were signs there, but I did not notice them, and the snarky employee even mentioned “yea nobody seems to read the signs.” so apparently this is happening often… Maybe they should just put away the display or get over the fact that people will want to touch them.
I really wish I could give five stars. The inventory is great and the other guy working here (also with a beard but no glasses and taller) was so incredibly kind and helpful the...
Read moreInitially impressed with this little shop ... and then my husband, making conversation, made the remark about more parking being available the day we stopped, which led the clerk (owner?) to make a sweeping generalization about “people always wanting to park in front of the store they are shopping, but don’t seem to mind how far they walk from the far side of a Walmart parking lot & all the walking they do once inside.” REALLY?!? First of all, little shop keeper, we were parked a block & a half down the street the day we went into your shop, not right in front ... secondly, never assume the people you are lecturing about walking don’t have an unseen disability that prevents them from doing much of that very thing ... and thirdly, because of your little diatribe, you lost a potential new customer, and quite possibly more than that if you tend to roll out unwarranted judgments of other people who happen to come into your store. There are other hobby places within our driving distance where the clerks don’t offer unsolicited criticism of the people who shop there (at least to our faces) and we are more than happy to walk across their big ol’ parking lot to get inside their much bigger store with a...
