Yeah, I'm sorry, but this place is subpar as a dog park. There are many, many issues with the Baker Park Dog Park.
If the city of Naples is so adamant about having dogs pre-register to be able to go into the park, then they need to appoint someone to enforce the rules. 10 week old puppies are being brought inside the park, 10 pound dogs are being brought into the large dog area, and people are bringing dog aggressive dogs in on a leash into the fenced-in area. All of these violations go against what's written on the waiver that is required to be signed before you actually bring your dog into the park. I think the biggest violation is that people are bringing dogs in without the pre-approved dog tag that is required to be on every dog that's in the fenced-in area of the park. But if there are no signs listed on the fence or someone there to enforce that, people are just going to freely bring their dogs in unregistered ahead of time.
The wood chips and the mulch are an extremely bad idea because unlike grass, urine soaks into the mulch and the wood chips, leaving the area smelling pungent of dog pee. The only thing that would really wash that out is a good rain but of course, rain will cause everything to be soggy and muddy because more than 80% of the fenced-in area is dirt and mulch.
The large dog area and the small dog area share a fence that separates them. There are many large dog breeds that are prey driven so when they see a small dog running next to their side of the fence, this will cause digging and biting through the fence. The city of Naples either needs to erect a second fence to allow a space in between or some kind of a tarp so that the dogs cannot see each other. What prompted me to write this review is the fact that a small dog was digging under his side of the fence and sticking his paws through the chain-link, and a larger dog bit down on the small dog's paw and wouldn't let go causing the small dog to yipe and scream. And then of course, both owners begin yelling through the fence,...
Β Β Β Read moreWell, Ms Osborne complained about people bringing in young puppies. Did she try to educate them rather than just complain? Also did she notice that all dogs are welcome in the large dog side, not just 30# and above? I agree that the rules should be posted on both sides of the entrance to the park. ( It isn't the Baker Dog Park.) If she isn't happy with the Naples Dog Park I'd invite her to use one of the less subpar dog parks in the area. It is up to all of the dog park users to make the dog park a better place by keeping an eye on their dogs and kids, and educating less knowledgeable puppy parents as to the rules etc
Stuie and I have been coming to the dog park since it opened in 2011. There have always been a few issues that some people find fault with but you can't please everyone all the time. This is the best dog park in the area as far as I'm concerned. I always try to educate the new users as to the rules and the dog park culture. The young puppie's owners need to understand that their puppies are at risk until they have their shots and develope...
Β Β Β Read moreMUST LOVE DOGS. How many romcoms I have read where the affection connector are dogs, I lost track of it. Then, I am also a romcom writer and reader so, with that in mind I think Baker Dog Park is not only a great for your doggies to have fun but also a place where us humans can be as free of spirit as our beloved four legged. We are there fr our dogs to have fun and that is the main priority. The rest are circumstances and life is full of them. Let's embrace them. This past Saturday a young man with his daughter approach, the group I was hanging out, and ask for signatures for his council postulation. I strongly think different to him, but I liked that he respectfully looked for his community support. We are a community, red Blue and White, and our doggies are a perfect example. As I say,...
