We visited here in early April. Some of the homes were not open but we were able to see some really cool things in town. We hit the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints visitor center. The lady at the desk let us know what was open and told us about the free tours and activities there. We took 3 separate wagon rides. I am glad we were there in the early season as we didn't need to make a reservation to get on these (which is required in summer). Learning things here like why oxen were better to pull wagons vs horses. We visited the Browning gunsmith shop, the blacksmith and wagon making shop, and the family living center. The family living center was fun, even for an older couple. Here we watched (and participated in) candle making, brick making, rope making, barrel making and other things. At the blacksmith shop they made a small horseshoe from round bar, really cool to watch. The history to be learned here is fun and sad at the same time. We visited for two days and could have easily spent 3 or 4 if everything was open. Visiting and learning things here helps me appreciate that i was born...
Read moreWow wow and wow! Words cannot express how wonderful and quaint this town is! You will learn about the history of the Mormons. Explore numerous 1840s buildings. There are a number of souvenier shops with cool items that the pioneers used. Everyone is so nice and welcoming and eager to explain the rich history this town has. The Temple is beautiful. Im sure in the summer they have many activities for kids. What no one has mentioned is that inside almost all the old buildings is someone will either expertly explain the rich history of the building and the people who lived there or will show you how things were made in pioneer days. Learn how a brick was made. Learn how shoes, wagon wheels, horse shoes,bread ,barrels, blankets, shoes, guns, ropes and more. There is a blacksmith shop, a printing shop etc. Everyone is eager and more than happy to explain in rich detail! And did I mention the horse ride as well....

There's singing groups wandering around and live shows to enjoy. This is high quality talent. My kids compared it to Disneyland.
There are special shows during the summer with a family event beforehand-also all free. The activities at the family event were so so much fun!
