One of my first memories is of being at this park at 2 or 3 years of age. Now I'm almost 30 and I still love Sam Peden Community Park. I walk the paved trail with the dogs I board, and they are always ecstatic to be there. You have to dodge goose poop around the places where the geese and ducks congregate, but it isn't bad. The absolute lack of trash and litter makes up for it. The trail is maybe 1 kilometer, and there are plenty of beautiful views, especially where the trail hugs the lake. It's always lovely to pass by other trail walkers and exchange some friendly words. For safety, visit the park when the sun is up. I've never been especially concerned there, but the land butts up against an area of Grantline Road that's a bit depressed economically. While there's mostly great people around Grantline, there are a few seedy characters that can wander to the park on occasion. But since the park is hugged by some nice apartment complexes, I've never felt vulnerable, even when the park is empty. Come here with your kids, your dogs, your dates, or even alone. The park is a lovely space and a gem of...
Read moreFirst time at this park, I had time to burn before visiting someone in the area and was early in the morning and wanted to find some place I could park. So I googled parks in the area and saw it was open and nearby. I enjoyed the park more than expected and spent hours more there than expected. I love nature with all the geese and ducks, water and sporting courts there was so much more to do there than other parks I've been to as a kid. If you are ever in the New Albany area this is a must stop at place before the geese and ducks take off for the winter type of place! It has a cemented walkway around the water, watched people feed the animals, could not help, but laugh when a little girl ran from the ducks and geese saying they gonna eat me as they ran for the food that her parents threw on the ground for them. It has basketball court, tennis court, volleyball area and a very dog friendly area. Another thing I enjoyed while their was seeing dog's of different kinds and sizes as I missed my 2 dogs I had left with family back home because was first time in the area and was a...
Read moreAs it was growing up, decades ago, Community Park is still a great place for some family fun, BBQs/events, exercise, hiking, and dropping a line or three in the pond to see what you might catch! They keep it clean. The people are friendly. There are, I believe, four shelters to choose from. Two sets of public restrooms. They have three separate playgrounds for the kiddos to play on, a basketball and a tennis court, and a track to walk that surrounds the pond. There is an island that is accessible from shelter four (which is the last shelter at the end of the park). If you're up for some hiking, the park offers a few different trails to choose from that take your through the wooded areas. One trail leads to the 4-H fairgrounds. To wrap up, of all the parks in New Albany, Sam Peden's Community Park is one of my favorites and one of very few I feel is 100% safe for family...
